Recreation Specialist

We are seeking motivated individuals to work with people with developmental disabilities in various settings, assisting them to gain independence and meet their goals and dreams.

As a Recreation Specialist you will supervise teens and adults on scheduled recreation/respite activities which can include after work, after school activities, trips and school vacation programs. be responsible for organizing, procuring staff for, tracking registrations for, and attending our monthly weekend Recreation events.

Responsibilities include:

• Organizing, procuring staff for, tracking registrations for, and attending our monthly weekend Recreation events (same-day activities as well as Friday-Sunday Weekend Trips)

• The Recreation Specialist is the point-person for staff who work these activities and also the families of the Individuals who attend them.
• During our 9-week Summer Enrichment Program, the Recreation Specialist is the first point of contact for our Camp Counselors, and is responsible for creating the weekly activity schedule for the campers and making sure that the activities chosen are well received and actively participated in by both our campers and staff.

Requirements:

• High School Diploma or equivalent required. AA Degree in Human Services or related field is preferred.
• Valid NYS Driver's license for at least 2 years required.
• Available to work the shift of Monday-Friday 10:30am-6:00pm in Hawthorne, NY (in addition to the occasional weekend hours mentioned above).
• Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities is preferred.
• The successful candidate will be organized and will be able to communicate well in-person and via email to both their co-workers and our families.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel needed.
• Previous role as mentor/supervisor a plus (but not required).

• Summer Camp experience a plus (but not required).

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $19.00 - $21.00 per hour
