Your Role . . .
PERSONAL TRAINING SUPERVISOR (Recreation Specialist I) duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Recruit, hire, train, supervise and evaluate personal trainers & programs

  • Provide ongoing coaching and constructive feedback
  • Assess personal training program effectiveness, analyze and report data on an ongoing basis
  • Continually research fitness industry trends and propose program changes to meet the demographic needs of the community
  • Collaboratively build a comprehensive fitness & wellness program including personal training, small group training, outdoor programming, wellness programming, and other related activities
  • Design, create and maintain part time personal training schedules
  • Track part time personal trainer hours to ensure staff are not working over the allotted number of budgeted hours
  • Report as required on performance
  • Maintain trainer certification records and provide/recommend opportunities for professional growth

Physical ability to facilitate personal training and lead small group training, fitness assessments and fitness consultations of twenty to twenty-seven hours per week

  • Train patrons/groups utilizing a variety of techniques and modalities serving diverse age groups and fitness levels
  • Meet or exceed annual revenue and performance goals
  • Enforce policy, procedures and standards for personal training program including safety, customer service and staff accountability
  • A personal commitment to health, fitness and wellness with an outward facing professional appearance
  • Address patron comments, concerns, behaviors and conduct as necessary with friendly customer service ongoing marketing strategies
  • Maintain detailed participation reports, client satisfaction and retention and all other statistical records for programs and services offered
  • Recommend purchases for personal training program in compliance with City procurement processes and accurately track allocated expenditures
  • Actively promote all fitness and wellness programs and services to maximize patron engagement and retention

Perform other job duties requiring skills, knowledge and physical requirements as demanded by those duties described or less. Individual assignments will be determined by the supervisor based on the current workloads and department needs.

Minimum Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Requires a Bachelors degree in recreation management, therapeutic recreation, exercise science, or a related field; OR any combination of education (above the high school level) and/or experience equivalent to four (4) years in fields utilizing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities and associated with such positions as recreation leader or recreation program supervisor.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be available to work varied hours, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays and overtime when required to meet operational needs.

May be required to have a current and valid driver’s license.

May require a Commercial driver’s license.

This position may require incumbents to wear and maintain appropriate personal protective equipment such as, but not limited to, steel toed shoes, hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, or other safety attire and equipment in designated areas of risk. Specific requirements will be determined and communicated by the employee’s supervisor based on position assigned.

Alpha I Status: Positions within this class have been designated as Alpha I positions requiring employees to work during inclement weather, regardless of the City’s operational status.

Must possess a current national level Personal Training certification from ACSM, ACE, NASM, or comparable. Certification must be recognized by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA).

Preferences:

In addition to the minimum requirements, the ideal candidate for this position will have experience listed in the preferences below. Candidates with the preferred experience should ensure the information is provided on the application.

Ideal candidate will have at least 1 year of direct supervision of full time or part time employees

  • Must possess a current national level Personal Training Certification(s) from ACE, NASM or comparable - Certification must be recognized by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA)
  • Experience supervising fitness staff to include hiring and training
  • Experience as a Personal Training Manager, Supervisor or Program Director
  • Experience training clients and/or groups of varying fitness levels
  • Experience with meeting projected revenue goals and tracking expenditures
  • Ability to communicate in writing and verbally with patrons, direct reports and supervisors in a professional manner
  • Working knowledge of various computer software programs
  • Exhibit outstanding problem-solving skills by addressing unexpected issues with limited supervision

Work schedules could include early morning, evening, mid-day, weekends, holidays, or split shifts. Work location may change based on operational and programming needs.
