Description

Dauphin County Tax Assessment is currently accepting applications for the full-time position of Receptionist/Data Clerk. The role of this employee is to greet visitors to the public area of Tax Assessment, answer telephones, and attend to in-person and telephone inquiries within established guidelines; to perform data entry, as directed, to maintain databases of of property and ownership information; to file supporting documentation (i.e. input/data entry forms); to process mailings; and to assist visitors to the public area with PC-based questions and PC operations. This employee will also work as needed to greet and accommodate, within established guidelines, inquiries from the public who visit or telephone the Tax Claim Bureau for the purpose of research or inquiry relative to unpaid real estate taxes and/or payment of delinquent real estate tax; and further, to provide assistance, as directed, to assist in the maintenance of records for and of various tax sales.

The Receptionist/Data Clerk performs but is not limited to the following essential functions: communicates effectively with officials, co-workers, and the public in person, by telephone, and via internet inquiries; understands assessment practices and taxation based on assessed property values and operates within the office guidelines for delivery of information; answers incoming telephone calls and ascertains where to appropriately direct an inquiry if unable to adequately assist the caller or visitor; accurately processes information (data entry) supplied to update databases; performs general office operations such as operating office equipment, i.e., personal computer with proprietary software and Microsoft operation systems, telephone system, fax, copier, printers, microfilm readers, and calculators; processes mailings as required; files, retrieves, and sorts alphabetically and numerically; performs Uniform Parcel Identifier certification-document review prior to recording with the Recorder of Deeds' Office utilizing PC with DEVNET-proprietary software; assists with review of public communications as needed by the Director or Deputy Director; maintains, in the Tax Claim Bureau, a cash drawer for the purpose of taking tax payments, cash, approved debit card, or credit card requiring reconcilement of receipts, utilizing DEVNET-specific Tax Claim software with PC-based terminal, as needed and directed by the Deputy Director of the Tax Claim Bureau or the Director; prepares daily office settlement including preparation of daily cumulative deposit for delivery to the County Treasurer on an as needed basis as directed by the Deputy Director or Director; and performs all other duties as assigned. Salary is commensurate with experience.

Minimum Education, Experience, and Training Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or an accredited equivalency program, plus additional secretarial and computer training required.
  • Previous experience working in a secretarial/clerical setting preferred.
