Summary: GFUS R&D implementation of technical and talent management programs to support the overall business strategy. Directs R&D Griffith Performance Excellence (GPE) activities by performing the following duties personally, through a designate, or through subordinate supervisors.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Functions as a Project Manager in execution of technical activities that support GPE, R&D and the overall Griffith Foods business strategy.
- Applies scientific and engineering principles in research, development, production technology, quality control, packaging, processing, and utilization of foods.
- Collaborates with R&D peers, Purchasing and Supply Chain (FSQS) to link supplier selection, raw material selection, product formulation and product optimization to commercial fulfillment efficiencies and production of safe and regulatory compliant food products.
- Collaborates with unit R&D leader, unit GPE leader, NA Purchasing leader and R&D peers to assign, manage, and prioritize projects for key GPE raw material, supplier, formulation, and R&D process improvement activities.
- Leverage technology platforms to drive process efficiency, metrics visibility and data driven decisions.
- Defines, implements and drive metrics to monitor R&D and GPE effectiveness and efficiency.
- Leads project to optimize R&D processes to improve efficiencies and effectiveness of function.
- Drive proactive raw material and supplier portfolio initiatives to align with 2030 Aspirations, as we as Sustainable Sourcing, Nutrition and Alternative Protein focus areas.
- Supports Innovation raw material and supplier activities that support the long-term strategy of the organization.
- Establishes goals, appraises performance, recommends training, and provides input into final review for all direct reports. Coaches staff on job performance.
- Communicates progress of all key R&D GPE projects. Leverages methods and procedures for monitoring metrics, resource investment, research findings, progress reports, and staff conferences.
- Represents R&D in professional business relationships with GFUS client and supplier base, academia, government, and corporations in the food industry.
- Responsible for maintaining and enhancing the security of all information regarding product formulas and related confidential information.
- Implements contingency plans for R&D roles if an associate is unable to perform their assigned duties.
- BS in Food Science, Food Technology, Food Chemistry, or related technical degree.
- 5-8 years’ experience in R&D or FSQS in the food industry.
- Experience may include time with a retail or foodservice manufacturer and experience collaborating directly with customers and manufacturing facilities.
- Self-motivated, proactive and data/results driven.
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, with exceptional interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work efficiently under conditions of multiple deadlines and changing priorities.
- Strong Microsoft Office skills and presentation skills.
- Ability to occasionally travel, as business needs arise.
