MHC Healthcare is seeking a Psychiatrist to join our Behavioral Health team at the MHC Counseling and Wellness Center, located in the heart of Marana, AZ. The Psychiatrist shall serve as a team member in the provisions of behavioral health services in accordance with the member’s individual service plan under the guidelines of the Regional Behavioral Health Authority. The Psychiatrist will assume medical decision-making responsibilities in the assessment and management of member’s behavioral health disorders and the medications deemed appropriate in the treatment of such disorders. MHC Healthcare is a Federally Qualified Community Health Center (FQHC), with 17 sites in Tucson and Pima County. The following qualifications are required:
- Licensed as a MD or DO by the Arizona Board of Medical Examiners and licensed to practice as a physician
- Licensed by the Drug Enforcement Administration
- Must be a practitioner in good standing with the agency with practice and privileges consistent with clinical qualifications
- Experience using electronic health records
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (may be completed with MHC upon hire
- First Aid certification (may be completed with MHC upon hire)
- Fingerprint Clearance Card through the Arizona Department of Public Safety (or ability to obtain upon hire)
- Current Arizona driver’s license with clean driving record and proof of current vehicle insurance (39-month MVR will be run by MHC)
- Experience working within a managed care system
- Experience working with State and Regional Behavioral Health Authority (RBHA system, AHCCCS Complete Care (ACC) health plans, and community resources
- Experience working in community based or rural health setting

- Proven effective leadership with demonstrated ability to effectively direct, delegate, motivate, and build high-performing, collaborative teams.
- Works collaboratively with the Medical Director to assure optimal care to all behavioral health members while assuring cost effective use of all treatments including medications.
- Conducts psychiatric evaluations, prescribes and monitors medications, as appropriate.
- Provides consultation and education to all members, family members, and staff on medication regimes and side effects.
- Works collaboratively with MHC primary care providers to assure prescriptions are not duplicated, appropriate lab tests are ordered and screened with follow up.
- Adheres to the practice standards of the local community, ADHS/RHBA regulations and policies related to the treatment of persons suffering from substance abuse and mental illnesses.
- Participates in Adult Recovery Team meetings, Team Meetings, and other clinical meetings, as appropriate to maximize the recovery of all members.
- Effectively meets member needs, utilizing available resources while assuring member is maintained in the least restrictive environment possible.
- Provides education to members, their families, and to staff member related to medication, mental health diagnosis and medical conditions.
- Adheres to guidelines related to pharmacy practices.
- Obtains Prior Authorizations for restricted proprietary or non-formulary medications and approval for procedures such as ECT, neurological or psychological testing, or placement through the Psychiatric Medical Director.
- Responsible for meeting encounter requirements, as specified.
- Records and documents member information in a quality and timely manner.
- Provides all members with appropriate referrals to other community agencies as needed or requested.
- Follows professional and ethical practices when working with members, member records, families and community personnel.
- Maintains confidentiality of member/family information.
- Works effectively with all members and families to promote a milieu of trust while providing excellent customer service within a ‘recovery model’ of care.
- Utilizes appropriate channels for reporting/discussing/solving problems or concerns. Discusses staff concerns with particular staff member prior to involving Department Director, Psychiatric Medical Director, and the Director of HR, CEO or other staff members.
- Assumes responsibility for understanding guidelines and procedures for all Department contracts and requests clarification, if necessary.
- Observes applicable state and federal laws. Assumes responsibility for knowledge of laws and requests clarification, if necessary.
- Uses appropriate incident reporting procedures when documenting unsafe or problematic incidents involving patients, members and/or staff. Completes Incident Report accurately and follows procedures completely.
- Completes other tasks as requested by Director of Behavioral Health, Psychiatric Medical Director, CEO or other MHC Administrative Staff.
