Psychiatric Attendant-FT Unit and Shift Undetermined
(220005OD)The mission of the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (OhioMHAS) is to provide statewide leadership of a high-quality mental health and addiction prevention, treatment and recovery system that is effective and valued by all Ohioans.
Under direction of the Clinical Nurse Manager and/or Unit Nurse:
Trains patients to reach independent functioning in self-help especially, as it relates to ADLs.
Provides therapeutic crises intervention, to include, but not limited: verbal, & physical one to ones; precautionary measure, such as: suicide, assault & escape.
Monitors & records, vital signs, weight/height &/or any other physical condition.
Administers life-saving techniques (e.g., CPR, first aid.)
Documenting clinical data observed during the course of a normal shift; also performs clinical charting & required documentation, (e.g., assessed response to ITP; nursing care plan & medication; unusual behavior; incidents &/or injuries; completion of Unusual Incident Reports, when necessary);
Provides information to unit nurse & other treatment team members as appropriate;
Observes/reports alterations in patient's behavior & sleep habits;
recommends changes in treatment intervention as indicated by those observations;
Attends scheduled training & performs other direct care duties as assigned.
Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition & subtraction & in reading & writing common English vocabulary. (Pursuant to a Federal Court Order, individual hired into this class at Oakwood Forensic Center must be high school graduate or G.E.D.)
- Or equivalent of the Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.
Knowledge of agency & hospital policies & procedures related to forensic client/patient care*; ward security for forensic patients*; client custodial care*; addition & subtraction. Ability to recognize unusual or threatening conditions & take appropriate action; deal with problems involving several variables within familiar context; read short sentences with concrete vocabulary.

The final candidate selected for the position will be required to provide proof of Covid-19 vaccination in accordance with federal regulation Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Final Interim Rule 2021-23831 and 42 CFR 483.80 and 42 CFR 483.430(f), State of Ohio Administrative Policy HR-52, and OhioMHAS Policy HR-03.
Unusual working conditions:
May work weekends and holidays; may be exposed to communicable diseases and unpredictable patient behavior.
