BASIC FUNCTION:

Support the Plant Operations providing engineering services for new capital projects and plant support projects, including: conducting site surveys, development of engineering solutions, cost estimation, Capital Asset Request (CAR) preparation, and management of design firms and contractors .

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participate in all aspects of the design process for large expansion and green-field projects within the plant; utilizing internal and external resources to ensure completion within the approved schedule and budget.
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates with support of the engineering team.
  • Prepare Capital Asset Requests (CARs) in conjunction with plant and divisional personnel.
  • Develop plant layouts under the direction of the Engineering Design Manager.
  • Provide engineering support, construction support and project management support for Capital projects and plant support as necessary.
  • Survey plant site.
  • (This may include research into available utilities, space needs for plant and ore storage and possible restrictions which may hamper our operating facility.)
  • Research new equipment and technologies for possible application.
  • Assist in startup of new systems as necessary.
  • Provide technical support to the Customer Service Engineering group as necessary.
  • Develop and maintain design standards and assure consistency in process, construction, equipment, design and installation. This is to be coordinated with GES and competency groups.
  • Support the project management team to insure project completion within approved budgets using established project management guidelines and systems.
  • Assist in developing project baselines including: scope development, cost estimates, schedules, resources planning and communication plans.
  • Utilize AutoCAD to develop Process flow diagrams, P&IDs, and equipment general arrangement drawings as required.
  • Supervise and/or provide process support that is consistent with plant requirements and/or specific equipment needs.
  • Develop designs that are safe and environmentally compliant meeting all local and national standards.
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and a minimum of 5 years of experience as a project and/or design engineer in the mineral processing industry or other heavy industry in operations and/or engineering fields with supervisory experience, or equivalent combinations of education, training and experience, are required.

Must possess well-developed interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with others at all levels of the organization.

Must possess a basic knowledge of mineral processing including: quarrying, crushing, grinding, classification, conveying, packaging, storage and shipping. A strong working knowledge of all engineering fields with emphasis on mechanical engineering, or electrical engineering is essential.

Strong skills in AutoCAD, Microsoft Project, Word and Excel are required.
