Position Overview
The Division of Firearm Violence Prevention is seeking to hire a dynamic, organized, detail-oriented individual to serve as Program Research Specialist for the Downstate Research Unit. This position implements the Reimagine Public Safety Act (RPSA); reviews and evaluates Department violence prevention projects and programs to improve performance with the goal of reducing firearm violence through in-person and on-site observations; serves as a liaison on behalf of the manager providing information on violence prevention evidenced-based and best practices and other resources; provides local data on firearm violence and other violence to assist with violence prevention and reduction strategies; assists with outreach and community-based activities related to Firearm Violence Prevention and the Reimagine Public Safety Act; and provides advice, guidance and assistance on firearm violence prevention.
Job Responsibilities
- Serves as a Firearm Violence Prevention Program Research Specialist to implement the Reimagine Public Safety Act (RPSA) in the RPSA Downstate Communities.
- Reviews and evaluates Department violence prevention projects and programs to improve performance with the goal of reducing firearm violence for the RPSA communities in Downstate Based Entities through in-person and on-site observations.
- Serves as a liaison on behalf of the manager providing information on violence prevention evidenced-based and best practices and other resources.
- Provides local data on firearm violence and other violence to targeted RPSA communities downstate to assist with violence prevention and reduction strategies.
- In collaboration with the manager, Assistant Secretary and Senior Policy Advisor, travels to assist with outreach and community-based activities related to Firearm Violence Prevention and the Reimagine Public Safety Act in the RPSA downstate communities.
- Provides advice, guidance and assistance on firearm violence prevention.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college, preferably with courses in business or public administration.
- Requires one (1) year of responsible administrative experience in a public or business organization, OR completion of an agency approved professional management training program.
Specialized Skills:
- Of the one (1) year of responsible administrative experience, requires one (1) year of experience in researching and evaluating a program for a business or public organization, including data analytical experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- One (1) year of experience in researching and evaluating a program for a business or public organization, including data analytical experience.
- Three (3) years of professional experience utilizing principles and practices of public and business administration.
- Three (3) years of professional experience in research for a public or private organization.
- Three (3) years of professional experience thinking independently with strong organizational, interpersonal, problem solving, and leadership skills.
- Three (3) years of professional experience utilizing critical thinking skills while multi-tasking multiple projects.
- Four (4) years of professional experience analyzing administrative problems and adopting an effective course of action.
Conditions of Employment
- Requires a valid driver's license.
- Requires the ability to travel statewide.
