The Program Manager is responsible for the effective, efficient functioning and operation of all year-round programming. The incumbent will be accountable for facilities, programs and the effective use of staff. The Program Manager with prepare program areas, train staff and instruct participants in all classes. It is essential to ensure the safety of participants, proper use of camp equipment and proper use of camp facility. Ensure to provide an enjoyable experience to participants. The Program Manager will assume director responsibilities when necessary. This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Mission Advancement: Models and teaches the Ys values. Ensures a high level of service with a commitment to changing lives. Provides volunteers with orientation, training, development, and recognition. Cultivates relationships to support fund-raising.
Collaboration: Champions inclusion activities, strategies, and initiatives. Builds relationships to create small communities. Empathetically listens and communicates for understanding when negotiating and dealing with conflict. Effectively tailors communications to the appropriate audience. Provides staff with feedback, coaching, guidance and support.
Operational Effectiveness: Provides others with frameworks for making decisions. Conducts prototypes to support the launching of programs and activities. Develops plans and manages best practices through engagement of team. Effectively creates and manages budgets. Holds staff accountable for high-quality results using a formal process to measure progress.
Personal Growth: Shares new insights. Facilitates change; models adaptability and an awareness of the impact of change. Utilizes non-threatening methods to address sensitive issues and inappropriate behavior or performance. Has the functional and technical knowledge and skills required to perform well; uses best practices and demonstrates up-to-date knowledge and skills in technology.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:
Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions and to supervise program activities in a wide variety of indoor and outdoor locations. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Act as a primary host for any groups. Train, manage and be accountable for the performance of other camp hosts.
- In coordination with the Outdoor Center Director, implement recruitment strategies ensuring training and supervision of staff.
- Direct, plan and oversee coordination of program staff to include supervision, evaluation, training and team building.
- Follow risk management guidelines at all times. Follow all camp rules and regulations.
- Lead camp activities: archery, boating, climbing wall, hikes, team building, campfire programs, science classes, and seasonally appropriate activities.
- Have lessons prepared for all classes assigned which communicate accurate knowledge of the subject area to participants.
- Provide opportunities so that each individual participant can experience success during an activity.
- Provide excellent customer service as demonstrated by positive remarks on guest surveys.
- Conduct themselves in a professional manner including wearing staff shirts, nametag, and being responsive and helpful to guest questions.
- Set a good example for participants including cleanliness, language, and sportsmanship.
- Provide dining hall facilitation for visiting groups/guests.
- Provide outstanding guest services to all groups, whether acting as the primary or supervisory host.
- Have a working knowledge of Camp Brain in order to facilitate any necessary functions of the role.
- Provide support for the annual fundraising campaign, capital fundraising efforts and other related activities as required by the Leadership team.
- Perform other job-related duties as requested and necessary.
- Demonstrate knowledge of Year Round Program Budgeting.
- Demonstrates cooperation, support and flexibility toward fellow staff, programs, and the goals and philosophies of the Fairview Lake YMCA Camps.
- Act as a leader role model to part time & seasonal staff.
- Punctual to work and program areas. Prepare in advance for assigned activities.
- Encourage respect for personal property, camp equipment and facilities. Communicates concerns and all supply needs to the appropriate director in a timely manner.
- Set-up and clean up of camp areas for group needs: including mopping, carrying wood, moving tables, and litter sweeps.
- Submit all required reports on time.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma, Bachelor Degree preferred in Education, Human Services, Social Services, Recreation, or Business or equivalent experience.
- Fundamental financial and budget management experience.
- Basic computer skills and ability to use Microsoft Software and demonstrated ability to use other database systems.
- At least two (2) seasons (CAMP) working with children in an active setting, including knowledge of recreation and environmental activities.
- Strong problem solving and leadership skills.
- Effective written and oral communication skills. Ability to communicate in various venues, i.e., public speaking, presentations.
- CPR and First Aid certifications will be required.
