Role

Under administrative direction, performs professional and administrative work in planning, organizing, coordinating, and completing projects that are specifically related to providing educational, mental health, and substance abuse services for inmates in custody and for those transitioning into communities.

Major Duties, Responsibilities

Coordinates and supervises the Detention Services Division's Programs, which includes, but is not limited to, educational and substance abuse treatment services provided to inmates while incarcerated at the Yavapai County Detention Facility and Reach Out Initiatives that focus on providing mental health and substance abuse treatment upon release; ensures programs comply with Federal, State and County guidelines.

Designs, implements, coordinates, and tracks data for programs, agreements, and grants with outside providers; provides inmate tracking and data for Yavapai County and State stakeholders on recidivism.

Performs all aspects of supervision of staff, conducts performance appraisals, trains and prepares work schedules; oversees the Detention Services Division volunteers.

Interfaces with service providers and other criminal justice partners for the purpose of release coordination.

Assists in researching potential funding sources and prepares grant requests; assists in the implementation of state and federal grant funded initiatives.

Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience:
A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in Behavioral Health, Social Service, or the Justice system working with local providers and resources.

Education:
Associates degree in social or behavioral science, criminal justice or closely related field. Relevant experience in detention, corrections, social work or education may be substituted for the degree.

Interpersonal Skills:
Courtesy, tact, and diplomacy are essential elements of the job. Work involves personal contact with others inside and/or outside the county for the purposes of giving or obtaining information, building relationships, making reports, or soliciting cooperation.

Other Skills:
Must be a registered elector of County and at least 18 years of age at time of hire. REQUIREMENTS FOR EMPLOYMENT WITH THE SHERIFF’S OFFICE

All persons will be required to complete a thorough background investigation to include, but not limited to polygraph, psychological and physical fitness test. All persons must successfully complete a minimum six-month probation period. All persons must be a U.S. Citizen and a resident of Yavapai County. Where the position requires the operation of a motor vehicle, the applicant must have a valid Arizona operator’s license.
