Principal Job at Middle Village Prep Charter School
Middle Village Preparatory Charter School (MVP) is seeking a new principal to lead academic instructional and assessment programs beginning in the 2022-23 school year. MVP is a middle school that successfully opened in September 2013 in District 24 in Middle Village, NY. The principal will serve as the instructional leader of the school, managing the academic and assessment programs, reporting directly to the Board of Trustees, and partner with the Director of Operations. The Board is seeking a strong academic leader, with experience, intellectual vision and passion for enhancing the school’s success focusing on preparing students to enter the high school of their choice.

Middle Village Preparatory Charter School is seeking an experienced education leader who demonstrates a drive toward excellence and is passionate about serving all students. The Principal will leverage an effective leadership team to meet ambitious goals, improve a unified, high-performing team culture and actively engage families and the community. The ideal candidate is an outstanding strategic planner and people manager, who believes and invests in developing talent, while possessing a strong understanding of academic rigor and effective instruction.
Key Responsibilities:
Organizational Leadership
- In collaboration with the leadership team, identify academic priorities, set measurable goals to achieve priorities and monitor progress towards goals
- Build systems and tools to ensure school and team are on track to meet goals
- Effectively leverage team and resources toward intended outcomes
- Make decisions that are strategic, intentional, and grounded in data
- Create systems and practices to build a strong culture of achievement for staff and students
- Ensure fidelity of all students and staff to MVP’s mission
People Management and Development
- Directly manage and evaluate members of the leadership team against annual goals, effectively leveraging strengths and identifying and supporting areas of development
- Support Director of Curriculum to ensure instructional practices and lesson plans are effective and aligned with school-wide achievement priorities
- Partner with the Director of Operations to continually assess professional development needs and goals and execute a differentiated approach to meet those needs through direct, targeted coaching
- Partner with the Director of Student Services to create and ensure enforcement of the school-wide discipline policy and devise structures and incentives for students to internalize and celebrate achievement of academic goals
Instruction and Administration
- Partner with the instructional leadership to continually assess the development of instructional team members and execute on a differentiated approach to meet their needs
- Oversee the systems, practices, and cycles of assessment and the constant use of date to drive student performance
- Ensure effective creation and implementation of support services to meet individual students’ academic needs

- Demonstrated achievement of exceptional results with students and successful management of adults
- Three to five years of instructional experience, including two years in school administration, preferred
- Highly organized and detail oriented
- A master’s degree and administrative certification
- Current or previous experience as a Principal, strongly preferred
- Spanish fluency strongly preferred, but not mandatory
- Common Core state standards knowledge and experience
- Special education and English language learner students (and response-to-intervention processes) experience
