Weld County, one of the fastest growing Counties in Colorado, is seeking an organized, innovative, creative, and service oriented Planner to work within a dynamic and extremely energetic team environment in the Planning Services Department. Weld County covers an area of 3,999 square miles in north central Colorado. It is bordered on the north by Wyoming and Nebraska and on the south by the Denver metropolitan area. The third largest county in Colorado, Weld County has an area greater than that of Rhode Island, Delaware and the District of Columbia combined.
The Planning team covers all aspects of planning within the County. This multitasking position is responsible for various research activities, including gathering information for use in developing projection of needs, usages and impacts, analyzing needs for services, preparing graphic presentations and comprehensive reports on community characteristics related to planning, zoning, preparing narrative and visual reports and making recommendations on research findings, updating planning and zoning maps, and preparing materials for and aiding in the administration of various boards and commissions. This position will be heavily involved in customer service, process interpretation, project permitting, and long range planning support.
Supervisory Responsibilities: As assigned.
$69,338.98 - $87,822.11 annually, plus benefits (see benefits tab on the job posting). The position will normally start at $69,338.98 annually.

Reviews and prepares reports and recommendations on land use applications; conduct field investigations related to applications and violations; evaluate compliance with the Comprehensive Plan, Zoning and/or Subdivision Ordinances. Present staff recommendations to the Planning Commission, Board of County Commissioners and Board of Adjustment.
Discuss and explain zoning and Subdivision Ordinances and comprehensive land use policies with the public, public officials, and other agencies.
Conduct investigations on land use matters and zoning complaints.
Ability to perform population, land use, employment, economic base, transportation and other specialized studies of the County and adjacent areas; conduct field studies and surveys to collect original research data for County Planning projects and determine the statistical techniques to be used in compiling such data.
Attend various meetings as required; make oral presentations at certain meetings; prepare presentations and meet with public to explain plans and projects. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with officials, other employees and the general public.
Participate in staff conferences dealing with the development of plans, regulations and procedures. Establish and maintain necessary files pertaining to planning records, reports, plans, maps and materials. Create and participate in special research projects and studies as assigned. Communicate anticipated and current problems to supervisor.
Knowledge of county or municipal zoning, subdivision, and planning methods, principles, and practices. Some knowledge of graphic and illustrative presentation principles.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in Planning or allied field.
Required Experience:
- One year in local planning office, one year may be substituted for advance degree.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
- Required to have a valid Colorado Driver's License by time of hire.
- Ability to work outside of normal business hours.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common technical journals, planning reports, legal descriptions, maps, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from citizens or regulatory agencies. Ability to effectively present oral and written reports to management, public groups, and/or elected or appointed boards.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written and oral form.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Required to have a valid Colorado driver's license.
