POSITION: Physical Therapy Assistant

DEPARTMENT: Rehabilitation

SUPERVISOR: Rehabilitation Director

WORK AREA: Skilled Nursing & Assisted Living

Physical Therapy Assistant

  • The responsibility of this position includes the day to day therapeutic intervention of appropriate individuals in the rehab environment under the direct supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists register PT in carrying out procedures and programs.
  • Performs routine treatment procedures in accordance with the registered PT’s planned program.
  • Observes, records, and reports reactions and responses related to his/her assigned duties.
  • Reports any pertinent findings to the supervising PT.
  • Participates in education activities of the facility.
  • Communicates with patient’s physician as necessary regarding patient’s progress, treatments, etc, in consultations with supervising PT.
  • Communicates and interacts with other team members and the patient’s family or caregivers in collaboration with the supervising PT.
  • Follows policies and procedures.
  • Maintains treatment area, equipment, and supply inventory as required.
  • Maintains records and documentation required by work settings under the supervision of registered PT.
  • Maintains records required by practice setting, third party payers, and regulatory agencies.
  • Provides in-service education to team members and the community especially in the area of established service competency under the supervision of registered PT.
  • Identifies and pursues own professional growth and development.
  • Schedules and prioritizes own workload.
  • Participates in professional and community activities.
  • Functions according to the APTA Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice.
  • Supervises volunteers and PTA students under the direct supervision of the supervising PT.
  • Participates in development of policies and procedures under the supervision on registered PT.
  • Participates in organizational activities and committees.
  • Contributes to program planning and development in collaboration with supervising PT.
  • Critically examines own practice and integrates new knowledge.
  • Other duties as assigned.
