Military Center (BAMC), the respective using Military Treatment Facilities (MTFs) and SAMMC surrounding areas of responsibility for JBSA, Fort Sam Houston, Texas

Fulltime: Multiple Shifts and Opportunities

Minimum Requirements:

• Degree/Education: Graduate from a formal pharmacy technician program accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) or a formal pharmacy technician program (i.e., technical, hospital, or retail-based program) or a formal medical services training program of the United States Military.
• Certification: Certified by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or NHA
• Basic Life Support
• Experience: One year of experience as a pharmacy technician after graduation.

Duties: To include but not limited to

• Assess patient’s response to drug therapy and planning drug therapy based on physician-established diagnoses.
• Receive and review prescription for the full range of pharmaceuticals to include controlled drugs on the formulary.
• Determine type of substance, strength, dosage, and quantity to be dispensed in accordance with accepted practice and pharmacy standing operating procedures (SOPs).
• Enter prescription into the outpatient computer system, reviewing profile for allergies, drug/drug or drug/food interactions and duplicate orders.
• Coordinate with prescriber of pharmacy to clarify issues or problems with dosing, interactions, or instructions.
• Obtain the pharmaceutical, prepare package labels, visually inspects the medication in the bottle to be dispensed, verify appropriate medication, and checks the printed label affixed to the container against the original prescription for correctness. When the prescription has been filled and labeled, container is set aside for a final check by the supervising pharmacists.
