Personal Trainer - Wellness Center Job at Northwest Community Healthcare
Shift: Part time, Days, Weekend as needed, 20 Hrs/week
Reporting the Personal Training Coordinator, the Personal Trainer is responsible for facilitating each member’s or guest’s connection with the NCH Wellness Center offering personalized fitness and healthy lifestyle programs including fitness assessments and screenings of their fitness needs and then prescribing an exercise/lifestyle plan that will assist the members or guests in achieving their goals.
1. Based on a “apparently healthy” to “high risk” member’s request, provides any or all of the following fitness services on a one-on-one or group basis, assists members with their use of the fitness, health and wellness programming options to increase levels of member satisfaction, referrals and retention.
2. Provides program design and training progression options to members who are primarily apparently healthy to high risk. Informs new and current members on the benefits of regular exercise and orients new members on the proper use of the facilities and equipment to ensure safe and effective workouts.
3. Performs fitness tests, including cardiovascular and non-cardiovascular testing: provides consultation regarding test results. Promotes the facility’s personal training and related Personal Training services to members and guests.
4. Develops exercise prescriptions and programs based on member’s health and fitness needs and desires, specifying fitness equipment and routines.
5. Provides fitness supervision. Greets each member or guest entering the fitness area with an engaging and enthusiastic attitude and ensure that they get to know the members by name. Provides exercise instruction and explains and demonstrates use of fitness apparatus and equipment. Offers oral instruction on fitness technique and recommends corrective adjustments. Observes member engaged in fitness activities to ensure safety rules and regulations are adhered to.
6. Develops meaningful member contacts, while monitoring the fitness area, to help members achieve their health and fitness goals. Assist in facilitating personal contact between members/guests when they are on the fitness floor.
7. Provides consistent, quality information to members regarding any aspect of the facility. Informs new and current members on the benefits of regular exercise and orients new members on the proper use of the facilities and equipment to ensure safe and effective workouts. Represents the Wellness Center in a professional, courteous and enthusiastic manner.
8. Provides optimum support and encouragement to help members achieve desired fitness related goals. Follows up with current and past clients regarding their progress.
9. Assists with maintaining fitness center in a “camera ready” condition at all times. Performs daily equipment cleaning, and provide routine maintenance for fitness equipment as assigned by the Personal Training Coordinator. Clearly tags or removes non-functioning equipment
10. Works cooperatively with all departments to ensure Center and department goals are met. Provides training, coaching, and mentoring assistance for other staff under the guidance of the Personal Training coordinator.
11. Solicits prospective clients both inside and outside of the club to develop and individual client base and assists in the growth and success of the personal training department. Serve as a Mentor and/or Educator to members and guests of NCHWC. To achieve monthly personal training and related revenue program targets, as established by NCHWC.
12. Establishes and maintains accurate, current documentation records for each member that results in increased compliance to fitness programs and increased member retention objectives.
13. Willing to step in and assist with other facility service responsibilities, including teaching group-fitness classes, as may be required to ensure that the facility delivers upon its NCHWC commitment to excellence.
14. Attends and actively participates in scheduled Personal Trainer and other meetings.
15. Schedules and completes a minimum of 10 personal training sessions a week.
16. Respond to all emergency situations according to the NCHWC policies and procedures.
17. Adheres to all Wellness Center and NCH standards, policies, and procedures.

1. The level of knowledge normally acquired through completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science or equivalent work experience preferred.
2. Current certification from at least one of the following accredited organizations: ACE-CES, ACSM-CPT, ACSM-CEP, NSCA-CPT, NASM, ACE-MES, ACSM-MES, CSCS-CPT, CEC-Cancer certified required.
3. CPR/AED from American Heart Association.
4. The communication skills necessary to effectively present information and respond to questions in one-on-one situations.
5. The interpersonal skills necessary to interact with members and clients in a friendly and highly personable and supportive manner.
6. The organizational skills to systematically develop and provide an exercise regimen.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Considerable physical effort. Requires continuously lifting or moving average weight material, frequently moving or lifting heavy weight material, or occasionally lifting or moving heavy weight material in difficult work positions.
2. Requires normal mental and visual attention along with manual dexterity.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
1. There is frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts and high, precarious places. There is occasional risk of exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals and infectious fluids.
2. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
