Peer Advocate - MESA Student Ambassador Job at Tacoma Community College
Who We Are
Peer Advocate/MESA Student Ambassadors are student leaders who represent the diverse and unique population of students seeking a STEM degree at Tacoma Community College. They demonstrate strong institutional knowledge and reflect a positive image of our campus to the community. The Peer Advocate/MESA Student Ambassador will support MESA Program staff in various programming efforts, and connect students to various campus and community resources in an effort to build vibrant student communities, emphasizing academic excellence and promoting a holistic approach to student success. MESA Student Ambassadors are welcoming and inclusive to all students. They encourage and empower student participation in the MESA program and support during a variety of on and off campus events. This position reports to the MESA Program Director.
Essential Functions
- Encourage student participation in MESA workshops, panels, campus, and industry visits
- Advertise events sponsored by the MESA Program or other partners
- Identify policies, activities, supplies, etc. that the MESA needs to best serve students
- Perform word processing tasks and various clerical duties in the MESA Center
- Ensure that all students sign in and out of the MESA Center
- Represent MESA at various campus events
- Participates on and off campus in outreach events
- Explain MESA qualifications
- Provide overview of the MESA program
- Participate in MESA staff meetings, projects, and tasks
- Recruit and spark prospective students into leadership, internships, research and volunteering opportunities
- Maintain an inclusive, vibrant, and clean environment
- Perform other duties assigned by supervisor
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- TCC MESA Scholar
- Excellent customer service skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to produce college level writing on a personal computer
- Minimum GPA 2.50
- Have attended TCC at least one quarter
- Successful completion of a criminal history background check.
- Proof of completed COVID-19 Vaccination is required upon hiring and employment at TCC.

Terms of Employment
This is part-time hourly position is bound by the WAC 357-04-045 provisions above and is scheduled to work Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 11:30 am up to 17 hours per week. Flexibility in scheduling is required to meet the needs of the department. The salary is $15.74 per hour. Degrees must be from accredited colleges or universities recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and verified by National Student Clearinghouse.
