Job Summary

• The Part-Time School Language Teacher is responsible for providing a stimulating and developmentally appropriate educational environment that follows the goals and criteria of St. Joseph School and the philosophy that informs it.
• Part-Time School Language Teacher is a ten-month position.

Essential Functions

• Responsible for teaching grades K - 8, 2 classes per week
• Organizing and providing developmentally appropriate educational programs and instruction; planning and implementing curriculum in a coordinated fashion according to the scope and sequence of the Spanish language study program
• Providing activities and opportunities that encourage cultural curiosity, grammatical exploration, and oral skills practice appropriate to the developmental levels and learning styles of the students
• Planning and preparing a supportive and caring classroom environment in which students can learn and interact positively with one another; overseeing instruction and authentic assessment; collaborating with colleagues who teach the same or similar courses
• Interacting with parents; maintaining open and cooperative communication with parents and families, encouraging their involvement
• Fulfilling all administrative tasks corresponding to the classes taught, which include but are not limited to timely submission of grades and written student comments

Expectations of the Teacher:

• To assume collaborative responsibility for the school's educational environment by conducting themselves at all times in a responsible, ethical, and professional manner
• To assist at school functions designated by the Principal and Assistant Principal as necessary for the school's operation, e.g., Parents' Night, Open House, Parent/Teacher Conferences, etc. It is understood that these duties may sometimes extend beyond the regular hours of School
• To use technology effectively as part of classroom instruction
• To interact positively with colleagues in creating and imparting interdisciplinary units of study

Qualifications

• The ideal candidate will have a BA or MA in Spanish (preferred) or a related field and; a minimum of 2 years of teaching experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities of his/her grade assignment.

• The ideal candidat would be committed to the whole student's formation academically and spiritually and will draw upon current research to maximize student learning.
