SELECTION PROCESS
:

STEP 1: APPLY ONLINE

STEP 2: PANEL INTERVIEW
Applicants who meet the minimum requirements and police standards may be selected to participate in a panel interview.

STEP 3: EXTENDED BACKGROUND and REVIEW PROCESS
Applicants who pass the panel interview may be selected to move into the Extended Background phase of the selection process. During this phase, candidates undergo an background investigation and participate in the following exams: polygraph, medical and Urine/toxicology. Applicants who successfully complete the Extended Background phase are presented to the Hiring Review Board. The Board has the authority to approve or reject the hire of a candidate.

DURATION OF SELECTION PROCESS:
The duration of the selection process is approximately 2 to 4 months from the date of the interview. Applicants must pass each phase of the selection process to the satisfaction of the The City of Coral Gables to be considered for employment.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Coral Gables operates under a commission/manager form of government and is well known for its active and involved citizenry. The Part-Time School Crossing Guard will be responsible for the safety of school children while crossing streets to and from school.

Tentative Work Schedule :
>Mornings 7am to 9am (Monday - Friday)
>Afternoons 1pm to 3pm (Wednesday Only)
>Afternoons 2pm to 4pm (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday)
Approximately 20 hours per week. ***Work hours vary as crossing guards do not report to work during non-school days and summer months.***

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Directs traffic at school crossings.

Supervision of children in crossing streets and roads maintaining control of children while waiting at school bus stops, all with emphasis on safety.

Performs other related tasks as required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of traffic signal functions. Knowledge of basic safety procedures. Ability to use good judgement in overseeing of children. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

Physical Requirements

Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, sit, stand, hear, hands to fingers dexterity, handle, feel or operate objects, read and write English.

Work is performed outdoors. Exposure to extreme temperatures, various hazards, noise, heights and dust are common. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the job.

Qualifications

Must obtain the Crossing Guard Certificate issued by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT).

Must be able to successfully pass a thorough background in accordance with applicable federal, state and local laws.

PART-TIME (15-24 Hours):

ANNUAL LEAVE: 4 days per year (1 day is equivalent to 4.80 hours). Leave is accrued but not able to use during first 90 days of employment.

SICK LEAVE: 4 days per year. Employees may convert to annual leave 15 hours if more than 2 days have been accrued and unused during the fiscal year.

HOLIDAYS: 11 holidays (If scheduled to work, plus 1 floating day).

BEREAVEMENT: 3 Days for the death of an immediate family member (Parent, spouse, or child) and 2 days for any other immediate family member.

ADMINISTRATIVE SICK LEAVE: Employees who have not used sick leave, leave without pay, or have not lost time due to an on-the-job injury in a 6 month period are entitled to 1 day of administrative leave.

CASH PAY OUT OF VACATION: Employees may request payment of accrued/earned annual leave not to exceed 15 hours at the rate of pay in effect at the time of the request, provided such request is made no later than September 30, 2015 (or as amended every fiscal year).

MILITARY LEAVE: 30 work days every year with pay and the remainder of the period shall be without pay, unless otherwise provided by City Commission.

JURY DUTY: Time off with pay if scheduled to work.


PART-TIME (25 -29 Hours)

ANNUAL LEAVE: 8 days per year (1 day is equivalent to 5.80 hours). Leave is accrued but not able to use during first 90 days of employment.

SICK LEAVE: 8 days per year. Employees may convert to annual leave 30 hours if more than 4 days have been accrued and unused during the fiscal year.

HOLIDAYS: 11 holidays (If scheduled to work, plus 1 floating day).

BEREAVEMENT: 3 Days for the death of an immediate family member (Parent, spouse, or child) and 2 days for any other immediate family member.
