Part-time Registered Nurse (RN) Job at Beacon Specialized Living Services

*This is a part-time position that will transition into a full time role as the need grows.

Primary Responsibilities:

· Provides nursing services in compliance with federal, state and local regulations.

· Adhere to Intermediate Care Facility Intellectual and Developmental Disability Habilitative and Intermediate Care Facility Intellectual and Developmental Disability Nursing licensing criteria for admission, continue placement and discharge.

· Communicate quickly and compassionately with children and their families.

· Monitor individuals for medication related issues, medical treatments and routine health care needs.

· Implements and maintains required medical records and charts per established policies and procedures. Provides a flow of documentation and communication that clearly outlines identification of health-related concerns, treatment of these concerns and follow-up that occurs to remedy the concerns.

· Provides basic nursing services or coordinates medical services based upon recommendations by physicians or other professionals. Carries out doctor orders, prescriptions, refills and treatments.

· Informs appropriate people of changes in children's health status, or significant changes.

· Coordinates medical appointments, consultants and follow-ups.

· Maintains the confidentiality of all privileged information regarding the child.

· Trains staff in basic skills to become competent in providing first aid, detecting signs and symptoms of illness or dysfunction, recognize and monitor changes in the child’s condition, pain levels and basic skills required to meet the health needs of the child.

· Trains new employees, as necessary on medication side effects, treatment modalities and other health-related issues.

· Spend no less than 1.5 hours per week with children for health services, observation, charting and health assessments as needed.

· During the pre-admission process, the RN will make recommendations regarding the facility’s ability to meet the child’s nursing/medical needs.

· Assist children and staff to understand the children’s care plans, personal hygiene, family life and sexual education needs, as appropriate.

· Available for pre-admit and admission evaluation, periodic re-evaluation of services and discharge plans.

· Develops and implements a written plan for provision of all nursing services.

· Evaluation of nursing services for each child every six months, or as needed (care plans, pain management, etc.)

· RN are responsible for training and directing the direct support professionals. During training, ensure that competency is achieved in all areas specified in the training program (monitor changes in child’s condition, pain levels, care plans, etc.)

· Oversee all assigned children’s health care, including consulting with MD and monitoring of medical and dental conditions and appointments. This includes notifying the QIDP of doctor orders, Rx orders or other needed services within 24 hours.

· Completes other duties as assigned.

Education & Qualifications:

· Must maintain and provide copy of current RN License

· Preferred one year working with children or adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

· Upon hire, pursue certification program with Developmental Disabilities Nurses Association (DDNA) to obtain Certified Developmental Disabilities Nurse (RN CDDN). Certification will increase the effectiveness of nursing services rendered to individuals with intellectual/developmental disability (IDD).

· Must possess a valid Ohio driver's license and driving record that meets the standards outlined in Beacon Specialized Living policy.

· Must be physically and mentally fit to work with people with developmentally disabilities that have the potential for physical and verbal aggression.

· Must be willing to complete and pass a BCI Criminal Background Check.

· Requires the ability to think and act quickly in emergencies; maintain mental capacity which allows the capability of exercising sound judgment and rational thinking under varied circumstances.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $72,000.00 per year
