Part Time Digital Navigator Job at Brooklyn Public Library
Overview:
Under supervision of the Digital Navigation Manager, Navigators will be an integral part of Brooklyn Public Library’s efforts to equalize broadband access in our communities (for more information see BPL’s recently released Strategic Plan). Navigators will be responsible for building awareness around the FCC’s Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) and providing one-on-one support to interested patrons, including those who speak languages other than English. Navigators will answer questions about who qualifies for the ACP and how they can apply. They will help patrons navigate through the online application and if necessary help patrons understand their options when it comes to internet service providers and their available plans. Navigation support will be provided telephonically through a BPL hotline as well as in-person during outreach events and programs. BPL will be hiring for five part-time Navigator positions, all grant-funded with the current funding level expected to last three years. Additional funding is being sought.
Digital Navigators may have the option of working from home, though they will be required to travel to library branches and other Brooklyn locations regularly for outreach and in-person programming.
The hours for this position is up to 19 hours a week and the hourly rate is $25 an hour. Responsibilities:
Brooklyn Public Library is hiring a team of Digital Navigators to help low-income Brooklyn residents connect to free or low-cost internet service in their home or on a connected device.

- Assist with communication of Digital Navigation Program
- Deliver community outreach with partner organizations
- Liaise with branch teams to schedule programs and outreach events
- Deliver Digital Navigation programs at libraries and partner organizations
- Work with patrons one-on-one via the telephone and in-person with issues related to the ACP
- Perform other duties assigned by the Digital Navigation Manager
- High School degree or equivalent required, BA preferred
- Successfully demonstrated customer service experience with the ability to work well with a diverse public
- Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
- Strong organization and planning skills
- Proficient in basic computer applications
- Demonstrated ability to work with a team and on independent projects
- Bilingual preferred
