Under general supervision performs work of moderate difficulty in the construction, maintenance, and repair of County facilities; performs related work as assigned.

Typical Duties
(Illustrative Only)
  • Performs a variety of work in the construction, repair and maintenance of County facilities, including carpentry, plumbing, painting, welding, concrete, locksmith, minor electrical and mechanical
  • Investigates and diagnoses problems in the field, makes repairs or provides recommendations for possible solutions
  • Operates a variety of tools and equipment
  • Performs inspections according to departmental schedule and recommends repairs, upgrades, and/or replacements
  • Prepares and maintains records and reports including data entry into computerized software program
  • Assists with facility projects and purchasing materials
  • Ensures that facilities are adequately maintained to meet users' needs
  • Acts as lead worker
  • Oversees outside vendor activities and monitors contract compliance
  • Assists supervisor with work plans and performance evaluations

Essential functions include but not limited to: driving, standing, walking and bending; twisting, lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling heavy loads up to 100 lbs; working with and around others; interruptions; repetitive motion (elbow/shoulder); vision acuity (near/far); hearing and speech for ordinary conversation; finger dexterity/touch. Environmental factors include: majority of work is outside; exposure to noise; use of mechanical devices; exposure to odors and dust.
Minimum Qualifications

Three years of general maintenance experience, including two years of experience in commercial/industrial setting; OR any combination of education, training and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Must obtain an Arizona driver's license by date of hire and maintain it throughout employment. Must obtain a Class A CDL with Tanker endorsement within 12 months of Hire. The final job offer will be contingent upon a satisfactory 5-year Arizona Motor Vehicle Report.

Preferred Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications: Two to three years in Facility Maintenance; two to three years of supervisory experience and one to two years of heavy equipment operation.

This position is safety-sensitive.
This position is non-exempt from overtime.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Considerable knowledge of:
  • Metal Fabrication
  • The methods, practices, tools and materials used in a variety of building trades, maintenance and repair work
  • Inspection and preventative maintenance practices applying to mechanical equipment
  • Safe work practice and proper use of safety equipment
  • Guidelines and work practices to protect against (and treat) exposure to biohazards
  • Federal, state and local laws, codes, guidelines and rules governing functional area
  • Reading and understanding MSDS labels

  • Skill in:
  • The operation of hand and power tools, and other assigned equipment under field conditions
  • Use of computers

  • Ability to:
  • Read and understand building plans and specifications
  • Diagnose problems and make repairs in the field
  • Effectively handle lifting of various objects up to 60 pounds
  • Work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions
  • Respond to emergencies on a 24-hour basis
  • Work in confined spaces, on ladders and scaffolding
  • Prepare and maintain records and reports
  • Work safely and support the culture of workplace safety
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies and the public
  • Follow written and verbal instructions, including manufacturers’ service specifications
  • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing
