The Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation is interested in welcoming a new Outreach Education Instructor to our team of educators, providing in-person educational programming in classrooms throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia, and technology based distance learning for international, national and statewide audiences. The qualified educator should welcome the opportunity to collaborate with a diverse team, across multiple departments and mediums in the implementation and development of curriculum based, structured educational programs, while also being a proficient independent instructor. The ability to stay organized, maintain all teaching assignments, complete and distribute all required paperwork, as well as effectively communicate and build relationships with classrooms teachers and administrators is vital to success in this role. Outreach Education Instructors are tasked with taking our museums and educational programs on the road and across the web, and through dynamic engagement and various methodology, teach students about the convergence of the American Indian, European and African cultures in the New World through multiple lenses.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Knowledge of objectives, curricula, and operation of school systems and other educational institutions.
  • Working knowledge of classroom teaching and /or museum education techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, revise and implement educational programs.
  • Skilled in public speaking and leading group presentations.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as a team member.
  • Ability to work successfully in a fast-paced and changing work environment.
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively.
  • Must be able to indepedently manage artifact kit, weighing up to 50lbs.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Degree in History, Museum Studies, or Education preferred.
  • Teaching experience at variety of levels in classroom and/or museum settings and curriculum development imperative.


Special Requirements
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • This is a classfied,10 month position, with extensive travel between the months of September-May.
