Job Summary:
The Nutrition Services Coordinator is responsible for maintaining the nutritional database for the Nutrition Services Department with a primary focus on menu planning and nutritional analysis, in addition to general administrative responsibilities surrounding compliance with USDA regulations, specifically as they relate to the district-wide Nutrition Services meal programs.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the development and coordination of operational production menus, standardized recipes, special diets, allergens, associated nutritional analysis, maintenance of nutrition labels and compliance procedures according to MDE and USDA program regulations.
  • Maintain a nutritional database as it applies to food items served.
  • Assist in menu planning to ensure menus are nutritionally adequate, have an appetizing appeal, and are within governmental standards.
  • Maintain the district’s nutrition website to ensure menu accuracy and related nutrition services information.
  • Assist in calculation and control of menu costs.
  • Research, develop, and test new products and recipes to enhance operational efficiency and variety of products offered to customers.
  • Assist in establishing a la carte food selections based on Smart Snack compliance and tracking the nutritional content of all products sold in schools.
  • Monitor production records for accuracy for all sites.
  • Manage CN labeling for all food items served.
  • Continually evaluate established policies and procedures. Provide input and assist with annual updates to department manuals, job routines, job descriptions, forms and policies.
  • Provide support in the kitchens to ensure consistency in operation.
  • Assist in planning and conducting appropriate staff training.
  • Assist in the management of free and reduced applications and all related components.
  • Provide user support in the area of computer applications/point of sales to food service employees.
  • Establish and maintain favorable working relationships with all other District personnel and community.
  • Encourage professional growth through attendance at workshops, conventions and professional groups including membership with the School Nutrition Association and Minnesota School Nutrition Association.
  • Comply with federal, state and local licensing and regulations.
  • Provide in-service programs and continuing education for staff members.
  • Participate in the district’s wellness committee and work to implement and assess the district’s wellness policy.
  • Assist in educating staff and students on nutrition education.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Food/Nutrition, or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN)
  • School Nutrition Association Certification at Level 4 or willingness to obtain
  • ServSafe Certified or willingness to obtain
  • Computer knowledge/experience with experience with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel
  • and Windows 2000/XP.
  • Knowledge of State & Federal guidelines on Nutrition programs.
  • Valid Minnesota Driver’s License

Preferred Qualifications:

  • State of MN Food Managers Certificate
  • Nutrient Analysis experience
  • Minimum 3 years Food Service experience
