What You’ll Get to Do:

CACI is looking for Mechanical Engineers to work with the Active Response Gravity Offload System (ARGOS) at NASA / Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX. Candidates should have a strong interest in spacecraft, mechanical design, structures, mechanisms, enjoy working with hardware, have had an outstanding academic career, and most of all, possess a great passion to contribute to our Nation’s exploration of space.

This work involves design and development of the ARGOS facility upgrade to prepare for NASA’s return to the Moon. ARGOS provides a reduced gravity environment used for engineering analysis, crew trials, and training for space operations in microgravity or lower gravity on a planetary surface. An astronaut or robot is strapped into the ARGOS harness so that the system removes the effects of Earth’s gravity. This will support NASA’s deep-space exploration initiative with the return to the moon and on to Mars. The engineer will support the ARGOS upgrades from conception, design, analysis, manufacturing, through to operational test and certification for operations.

This position requires a self-motivated, capable person with strong verbal and written communication skills. In addition to outstanding technical expertise, the individual must be very people savvy, strong customer relationship skills, possess a positive team-player attitude, be flexible and willing to take on new assignments and responsibilities as they arise. Finally, the most qualified candidate will be an articulate speaker able to communicate complex technical ideas in a convincing manner, must share our passion for our Nation's Space Program, and share in the excitement of developing the next human-rated space vehicles.

More About the Role:

Job responsibilities include:

  • Design, develop, integrate, and test the vertical and horizontal mechanical systems of ARGOS.
  • Design, develop, integrate, and test a large, freestanding steel structure ensuring that it conforms to strength and modal requirements.
  • Design and develop mechanisms and structural elements.
  • Size motors including gearing.
  • Integrate, test, and assemble hardware.
  • Verify, validate, and analyze mechanical drawings.
  • Create documentation of the ARGOS systems and subsystems.

This work takes place at NASA/JSC in Houston, TX, a highly stimulating and dynamic environment that is critical in human space flight and the space exploration initiative.

    • Experience with CAD.
    • Familiarity with basic design for manufacturing principles
    • Experience with structural design, Finite Element Analysis (FEA), mechanisms, motor sizing, and gearing.
    • Experience with sensor integration.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team of mechanical, electrical, and software engineers.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with little supervision.
  • Must be a highly responsible, team-oriented individual with strong work ethic.
  • Must have highly developed coordination and organization skills.

These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:
  • M.S. in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Desired 2+ years of experience in technical areas identified.
