Overview
This is an exciting opportunity to work for the Department of Motor Vehicles in Bennington. The Motor Vehicle Examiner is responsible for the administration of various examinations for motor vehicle and operator's licenses, issuance of various licenses and permits, including the Commercial Driver’s License. Duties involve conducting a variety of examinations, including road tests, to determine applicant driving capability. This position is also responsible for assisting with registrations, renewals, and general customer service.

In accordance with Title 23, Section 102(d), an applicant must agree to be finger-printed and pass a background investigation to be eligible for this position. The background investigation may include criminal, financial and traffic records checks. Hiring managers will notify applicants who are in the final stage of the interview process of the finger-printing and background check requirement, to which an applicant must agree to be deemed eligible for this position. Applicants will have the right to withdraw their applications before finger-printing and/or a background investigation is conducted.
Environmental Factors
Duties are performed in the field and require operating and riding in automobiles. Considerable human relations skills are required to deal with nervous, upset, or hostile applicants. Incumbents may be required to take over the operation of a motor vehicle in the interest of personal and public safety. Incumbents must be able to carry heavy objects of up to 50 pounds. Due to volume, certain positions may be rotated to various work stations. A uniform must be worn during work hours.
Minimum Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalent AND four (4) or more years of work experience which includes public contact functions

OR

One (1) year of full-time college coursework AND three (3) years or more of work experience which includes one year of public contact functions.

A current, valid driver's license is required.

An applicant's vision must be correctable to 20/40 (Snellen Test) in both eyes, with normal color perception and field of vision.

A valid Commercial driver's license with all endorsements is required within one (1) year of employment.
