We’re looking for a skilled Hardware Technician experienced in prototyping to join our hardware team. This person will play a key role in shaping the future of Backbone’s hardware roadmap by helping create and test critical prototypes and designs.
What you'll be doing
- Assemble looks-like and works-like prototypes using parts manufactured by 3D printing and CNC
- Operate and maintain on-site rapid prototyping equipment including SLS, SLA and FDM 3D printers
- Root-cause customer returns and write failure analysis (FA) and corrective action (CA) reports about device failures
- Rework printed circuit boards to supporting engineering experiments and tests
- Manage prototype shipping, distribution and tracking for development work and builds
- Manage hardware lab inventory and maintain stock of prototyping supplies
- Continuously improve our prototyping workflow and workspace to improve efficiency and prototype quality
Required qualification and skills
- Hands-on experience building and assembling prototypes for consumer electronic products
- Strong communication and organization skills with ability to clearly articulate and document issues, including proficiency in presentation and spreadsheet programs
- Experience and familiarity with one or more 3D printing materials and technologies is required
- Experience and familiarity with hand and light power tools (drill, dremel etc)
- Comfortable taking constructive feedback and improving performance in a dynamic and rapidly changing workplace
- Able to work autonomously with strong commitment to ownership over tasks and prototypes, including accountability as a Directly Responsible Individual (DRI)
- High output, excited about building, prototyping, and evaluating new products
Preferred qualifications and skills
- Experience designing and operating physical and electrical test equipment, including drop, torsion and other reliability tests
- Ability to modify parts in CAD (NX, Creo, Geomagics) and make adjustments to models is a plus
- Experience soldering and reworking fine-pitched SMT components is a plus
- The ideal candidate has an interest or passion for the gaming industry
- Understanding or experience with machining or other fabrication technologies
- Desire to grow in the role to take on more responsibility, including product improvement and other engineering efforts
This role is based in either Portland, Oregon or San Francisco, CA.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $50,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
