Job Description
Under the direction and supervision of the Assistant Director of Mental Health Initiatives, this
position supports the many different programmatic efforts happening around mental health within Hokie Wellness. This includes health promotion strategies, policies, programs, interventions, and services that create an environment where the university community can learn, grow, and succeed. This position will focus primarily on educating students through workshops, outreach, and trainings as well as providing coordination between different student groups on campus through a coalition. This position will also work closely with the assistant director to support the training of the peer support group leaders and assist with the coordination of larger departmental events.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in psychology, public health, or any other related helping profession field with experience in mental health.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills, including experience with public speaking/presenting and small group facilitation.
- Experience teaching mental health workshops/trainings to students.
- Experience working with mental health support groups.
- Strong interest in topics related to mental health, stress, resiliency, and mindfulness.
- Professional writing skills and proficient computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Experience managing multiple projects and deadlines.
- Available to work some nights and/or weekends.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification in Mental Health First Aid and/or QPR suicide prevention.
- Training in support groups and person-centered approaches.
- Experience working in a college/university setting.
- Experience with peer education.
