Covenant Physician Partners is hiring a full-time Medical Transcriptionist/ Scheduler at Mid-South Gastroenterology Group located in Memphis, TN

Monday - Thursday, 7:00am - 5:00pm

About the Opportunity

We are looking for someone with a great attitude and solid prior experience in Medical Transcription. The ideal candidate will be detail oriented, strong at multi-tasking and dedicated to high quality patient care. This position is responsible for data entry. In this position you will be required to follow and observe the physician for extended periods to accurately document every aspect of every patient encounter. Scribe experience is preferred but not required. Willing to train.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

• Follows principles of aseptic technique and prescribed operating/procedure room procedures.
• Assists in all rescue and or resuscitative efforts as deemed necessary by attending physician, anesthesia provider and/or Center Manager.
• Aids in explaining the procedure to patients and assists in psychologically preparing patients for procedures, communicating effectively with patients, families, visitors and healthcare professionals.
• Assist with Endoscopy procedures as directed by physician and RN and within MA scope of practice, including patient positioning and obtaining biopsy/polypectomy specimens.
• Handles any specimens obtained during procedure, properly labeling, packaging and preparing for shipment.
• Accesses patient health information in the clinical EHR and accurately enters it into the Center’s EHR
• Engages in various clerical and recordkeeping duties as needed.
• Assists with the transport and discharge of patients when needed.
• Utilizes EHR to enter patient medical history.
• Prints and process history and physicals.
• Verifies cardiac/medical clearance is obtained as necessary.
• Documents all labs and diagnostics.
• Documents the patient and physician encounter with interval history.
• Works side by side with physician to construct notes and dictation on all patient visits.
• Communicates effectively with patients, families, visitors and healthcare professionals.
• Transcribes all medical dictation, translating medical abbreviations and jargon into the appropriate long form.
• Transcribes all office memos and letters to patients, doctors, insurance companies, etc.
• Creates and/or updates office forms, patient forms, etc.
• Performs other duties as requested or assigned.

About the Candidate

• High school education or equivalent.
• Previous experience in a customer service or clinical setting.
• One year prior experience as a Medical Transcriptionist preferred.
• Must be competent in the use of basic office equipment including computer, printer, telephone and fax.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and remain poised and professional when interacting with potentially hostile patients and family members.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with physicians and all medical professionals.
• Current certification in BLS.
