Job Title: Medical Director for Integrated SUD Programs

Department: Medical; primarily Gold Street Location

Reports To: Chief Medical Officer

Hours: T-F, 7:30am-6pm

Location: Gold Street


POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Chief Medical Officer, directs MAT and SUD services by directing and coordination activities consistent with established goals, objectives and policies, as well as assisting the Chief Executive Officer, and Leadership Team in a manner that meets the mission statement objectives of the Board of Directors. Is comfortable with the pathophysiology of substance use disorder and is passionate about the harm reduction approach to care. Provides quality comprehensive medical care in a compassionate, caring and integrated environment. Develops and implements therapeutic treatment plan in medical setting. Assists the Leadership Team to continue developing integrative SUD services clinic wide and develop an infrastructure to support clinical and clinic staff in the provision of care to patients with substance use disorders. Hill Country believes that SUD is a primary care diagnosis and is treated in the primary care teams, thus this position will be an integral member of the primary care team and will be expected to practice full scope primary care.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Under direction of CMO and in coordination with the Integrated SUD Program Director, oversee operations of the MAT and SUD programs. Monitor MAT services to ensure the effectiveness and quality. Identifies problems or potential problem areas, recommend and implement solutions.


  • Oversee the recruitment, supervision and training of the medical staff in regards to harm reduction and MAT/SUD.


  • Provides orientation and ongoing training for Medical staff working on the SUD teams, assuring the staff is trained to perform tasks as outlined in the MAT Program Manual.


  • Consults with Leadership, managers and staff to set policies and coordinate the provision integrated SUD and MAT services with an emphasis on quality of care and efficiency.


  • Work in coordination with the Compliance department to address SUD Program specific complaints and incidents.


  • Advise reporting staff on updates as required by funders or internal reports.


  • Work with other program and office managers to ensure that workflows, policies and procedures are followed.


  • Build and sustain relationships with other agencies in the larger community in Shasta County.


  • Effectively collaborates and coordinate with outside organizations, and represent the interests of HCCC to outside agencies and interest groups.


  • Assist to facilitate collaboration and cooperation between clinical and operational staff located at the CARE Center, Mobile Crisis Outreach Team and medical sites.


  • Maintains and updates program policies and procedures as needed.


  • Attend CME and other trainings as needed and approved by the CMO.


  • Co-facilitate monthly MAT program meetings to assist to improve MAT services at all Hill Country locations.


  • Represents the interest of staff to management and management to staff.


  • Provide direct services to clinic patients within scope of professional license and expertise.


  • Be familiar with social determinants of health, chronic mental health and functional impairment concerns.


  • Maintain proper documentation of direct services.


  • Consults with behavioral health, SUD counselors and case management staff concerning treatment plan and amends plan as directed.


  • Acts as a resource to both the medical and behavioral health staff, as well as case managers.


  • Attends weekly staff meetings, and other special project meetings as requested.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assist in the supervision of clinical staff, including primary care physicians, medical specialists, nurse practitioners, physician assistant clinicians, behavioral health providers, nursing director, medical residents, medical and nurse practitioner and physician assistant students, as appropriate and directed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience:

Physician, Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant licensed in the State of California without any limitations on license to practice in area of specialty. Five years of Family Practice experience preferred. Three years of SUD Treatment experience preferred. Experience working in a clinical non-profit environment preferred. Strong leadership skills preferred.


Certificates and Licenses:

Current clinical licensure in the State of California. Current DEA license with X-waiver. Current BLS Certification; ACLS preferred. Current CA drivers license.


Language Ability:

Must have intermediate level language skills. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before individuals, groups or employees of organization.
