Covenant Physician Partners is hiring a Medical Billing Manager to lead the billing team at Anne Arundel Gastroenterology Associates / The Maryland Center for Digestive Health located in Annapolis, MD.
About the Opportunity
The Billing Manager is actively involved in problem solving and conflict resolution with team members, customers and insurance companies. Under the direct supervision of the Practice Manager and the overall supervision of the Regional Vice President, Operations, this position requires a high level of timely, accurate, and complete analysis and oversight of the collection of revenue from the insurance companies, facility programs and the patients, as well as the protection from loss of revenue. The Billing Manager is responsible for working co-operatively in a team setting, promoting team spirit and generating ideas that will develop the team and the Practice. The employee will adhere to and comply with the Covenant Code of Conduct, Human Resource Policies and Procedures, Operational Policy and Procedure Manual, Patient Bill of Rights, HIPAA compliance, and Corporate Compliance Plan.
This position is responsible for the direct supervision of the billing department and for carrying out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
- Organize and assign daily workflow within the team.
- Read and evaluate healthcare receivables reports and identify trends.
- Cross-train the billing staff for all job functions in the Billing office (i.e. insurance authorization, charge entry, electronic and paper claims submission, payment posting, accounts receivable follow up, denials and appeals).
- Ensure compliance of all rules and regulations of insurance carriers.
- Ensure all payments are processed timely and accurately.
- Work closely with the Director of Medical Surgical Operations to ensure timely month end close and reconciliation of collections posted to the bank.
- Identify and create solutions to problems relating to the timely processing of claims.
- Monitor claims submissions, payments and denials to identify trends; report any issues to the Director of Medical Surgical Operations.
- Monitor charge posting for accurate insurance coding and timely processing.
- Develop procedures to ensure reconciliation of charge and payment posting.
- Respond to patient account inquiries, questions, and complaints when necessary.
About the Candidate
- Associates degree or equivalent to five years medical billing experience.
- Five years of successful practice/ASC/Anesthesia medical billing experience.
- Able to use personal computer, including word processing, spreadsheet, and e-mail / calendar functions for day-to-day activities.
- Superior communication skills both verbal and written. Ability to speak clearly and respond well to patient’s questions and appear confident when answering questions regarding their account.
- Broad knowledge of medical billing operations and third party billing policies and procedures.
- Outstanding customer service skills.
- Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced setting while managing competing demands.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with physicians and all medical professionals.
- Prior knowledge of Microsoft Office, primarily Word and Excel.
- Experience with practice management systems and clearinghouses; G-Med experience preferred.
- Certified Procedural Coder certificate preferred.
