Job Description:
As a Senior Engineering Technician, you will develop, execute and assist with highly skilled technical and design work in areas of installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical, electronic, and mechanical equipment such as intricate launch systems to include stationary and mobile launchers. The incumbent shall develop specialized design and weight test procedures in support of various launch systems and ordnance handling ground support equipment with wide knowledge and a high degree of proficiency. The incumbent shall also design, implement and assist senior engineers in the modifications of various target designs, missile and rocket control systems, missile and rocket launchers, develop and execute precise hydraulic, static and electronic test equipment. The incumbent shall develop drawings to include various industry and Navy design factors. Assists with installation, maintenance, system upgrades, troubleshooting, replacement, and repairs of all facilities, infrastructure, vehicles, new/existing equipment, and tools. The senior technician will become ordnance qualified to augment Navy personnel during missile/gun munition operations to include: handling, transporting, assembly, launcher loadout, and arming in accordance with NAVSEA OP5 and OPNAV INSTRUCTION 8023.24C.
Apart from general housekeeping and yard-keeping tasks, the technician is responsible for completing checklists, inspections, recording/preparing materials and parts lists for repairs, and reporting abnormal conditions and safety hazards. The technician will frequently operate various industrial lifting equipment, man-lifts, overhead cranes, hoists, and forklifts in a safe and efficient manner. Use troubleshooting aids such as oscilloscopes and digital VOM’s to accurately interpret readings.
Essential Functions:
- Assist in troubleshooting Electrical and electronic, as well as, hydraulic & pneumatic troubleshooting with the goal of progressively getting better.
- Assists with troubleshooting electronic, electrical, & mechanical systems that do require considerable judgment and final diagnostic.
- Responsible for hand tools, electrical tools, volt/ohm, hydraulic pumps, amp meters, and other testing equipment, including transportation equipment, launcher equipment, and lifting equipment.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety and a willingness to take personal responsibility for safety when required.
- Responsible for maintaining the work area in a safe and organized condition.
- Responsible for filling out pre-use checklists for forklifts and other ordnance and material handling equipment.
- Responsible for transfer, transport, and handling of liquid and gaseous nitrogen.
- Employee operates as a member of the team, but not as a lead.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be a US Citizen
- Active U.S. Security Clearance level Secret
- Associate’s degree in Electromechanical Technology with a minimum of 2-years progressive experience or Military experience and familiarization in troubleshooting and repairs of electrical and electronic control systems for shipboard gun and missile fire control systems or Technical Certificate from an accredited educational institution with a minimum of 4-years combined experience working with electrical and mechanical systems, or High school diploma/GED with at least 6-years of experience in electrical and/or mechanical maintenance related field.
- Minimum of one year of previous experience operating and maintaining industrial lifting equipment, forklifts, man-lifts, cranes, and hoists.
- Minimum of one year of previous experience using at least one of the following troubleshooting aides: thermography gun, digital VOM, volt, ohm, or amp meters
- Ability to lift up to a maximum of 50 pounds
Preferred Qualifications:
- Self-starter requiring minimum supervision and direction.
- Ability to climb and work at elevated heights of up to eighty feet.
- Ability to interpret basic electrical schematics and blueprints.
- Ability to understand basic hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Ability to complete necessary training required to pass the Navy Ordnance Board as a safety observer.
- Proficiency with computers and ability to work with Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Proficient with AutoCAD and Solid Works.
Security Clearance:
Applicants must have an active security clearance and/or the ability to obtain and maintain a US government security clearance as specified in the minimum qualifications. Selected candidates will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements to obtain a DoD government-granted security clearance.
