Math Specialist
Frostburg State University (FSU) is accepting applications for a Math Specialist. This is an exempt, full-time position. Salary is competitive and includes the robust University System of Maryland benefits package options. The continuation of this position is contingent upon recurring grant funds.

Frostburg State University’s Student Support Services (SSS) program is an established, traditional program that provides academic advising and advocacy, academic skills development, professional tutoring, career and graduate school guidance, financial literacy and financial aid assistance, personal counseling, and educational and cultural enrichment to a diverse population of 275 undergraduate students each year. FSU’s SSS program routinely exceeds its student success goals.
Responsibilities: Tutor SSS participants in mathematics courses. Work intensively with participants with disabilities or severe academic deficiencies. Monitor academic progress and financial aid status of a case load of SSS eligible students. Meet with participants on a regular basis to provide academic advising as well as financial, career, and graduate school counseling. Supervise collection of eligibility data on incoming first year students. Maintain participants’ records according to federal regulations. Assist director with preparation of federal and University reports and with the planning and evaluation of programs and policies to meet grant objectives. Assist in planning and facilitating TRIO SSS events, workshops, and activities.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Education, Mathematics, or related area. Experience working in a teaching, advising, tutoring, or other student service role. Effective communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in Mathematics, Education, or a related field.At least two years of experience working with students who have limited academic preparation and/or physical or learning disabilities. Experience with data collection and data management. Knowledge of U.S. Department of Education regulations and practices. Previous participation and/or employment in a TRIO or similar program. Experience overcoming barriers similar to those of SSS participants.
