Effective Date of Employment:

• First Semester Work: Sept 2023-January 2024
• Second Semester Work: January 2024-June 2024

Schedule Includes Tuesday and Thursday Evenings, 6:00PM- 9:00PM, 5-7 reading groups each night. Tutors in the program will also attend planning and ongoing program meetings.

Salary:

$35.00 per hour plus paid prep time

Hours:

240 hours anticipated over the couse of the entire school year.

Organizational Relationship or Line of Authority:

Directly responsible to the Director of Alternative Education and to the Director of English Language Education

Responsibilities:

• Create and execute multiple differentiated lessons for small reading groups for students who present as non-literate to low-literate in their first language and similarly in English.
• Develop scope and sequence for growth to develop students' native language and English literacy.
• Work collaboratively with METAS staff to develop, implement and consistently monitor goals and objectives for students.
• Provide a positive and structured learning environment for all students
• Communicate regularly with students about their goals and progress
• Participate in on-going planning, implementation, and evaluation of curriculum and program
• Carry out responsibilities of the classroom in-person with students using SEI strategies and pedagogy
• Attend program meetings
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Alternative Education, building Principal, Director of ELE, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Learning or the Superintendent of Schools

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s or higher earned academic degree
• Licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education as a Teacher in ESL/EL grades 5-12
• Knowledge of developing literacy
• Knowledge of second language literacy development
• SEI endorsement required
• Demonstrated ability to work with English learners
• Demonstrated ability to work with students with limited or interrupted schooling (SLIFE)
• Ability to effectively communicate in Spanish and/or Portuguese preferred but not required
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable
