Manager of Accounting Job at Southwest Christian School, Inc
Position Summary
The Accounting Manager is a highly motivated professional who finds satisfaction in producing and analyzing financial data to inform strategic decisions by the School. This role will manage the financial infrastructure that supports the School’s programs and assist the CFO with operational budgeting, financial analysis and reporting.
Essential Functions
- Manages and oversees the daily operations of the accounting function.
- Assists CFO in developing and monitoring annual budget.
- Prepares financial scenarios, forecasts and long-range financial models.
- Creates and distributes monthly reports to budget managers.
- Oversees monthly reconciliations of bank, endowment, and various general ledger accounts.
- Ensures timely completion of monthly close process; prepares and posts monthly journal entries.
- Arranges and coordinates annual financial statement audit, 403(b) plan audit, and preparation of Form 990 by external accounting firm.
- Prepares quarterly financial statements and dashboard for review by administration and board of trustees.
- Ensures internal controls, policies and procedures are in place for timely and accurate financial data.
- Coordinates submission of financial information to national databases, such as DASL, ACSI, etc.
- Participates in ongoing professional development and society membership to stay up to date on accounting standards, trends in financial reporting and analysis and best practices in independent schools.
- Performs other duties as assigned, to ensure the efficient and effective performance of the School.
- Abides by the policies and guidelines contained in the SCS Employee Handbook.
Expected Qualifications
- Bachelor’s and/or master’s degree in accounting or finance.
- CPA license.
- Minimum three to five years of experience managing finance, accounting and budgeting.
- Experience in non-profit accounting and reporting preferred.
