Primary Function:


The Manager, Logistics will help drive the implementation of Zoro’s Digital Supply Chain direct-to-customer fulfillment strategy. Reporting to the Director, Logistics Strategy and Operations, they must work with internal and external stakeholders to improve processes, reduce costs and deliver outstanding customer experience.
This role owns the development and management of transportation, forward logistics and cross dock related tasks from operational and tactical aspects. The manager establishes and upholds core fundamentals to promote knowledge exchange, quality assurance, and enable continuous improvement across the team. The initial focus for the manager will be to help lead efforts to establish and monitor performances and setting right expectations with key partners as well as leading improvement initiatives to help provide better customer experience. They will lead their team of analysts and coordinators to establish and improve processes through personal development and coaching with logistics topics and also foster analytical, continuous improvement and/or project management principles.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Strategic/Tactical

  • Establish and maintain alliances with key internal and external stakeholders and senior management focused on total cost and service solutions
  • Consult with the Supply Chain leadership teams to identify and prioritize initiatives based on the company and departmental goals
  • Lead and/or support on various corporate Strategic initiatives related to logistics areas
  • Monitor emerging supply chain technology and provide recommendations via a business case to the leadership on improvement opportunities
  • Design, implement, manage logistics (i.e. transportation, cross dock) processes, policies and strategies to help deliver better customer experience as well as bringing efficiencies in Zoro processes

Continuous Improvement

  • Consult with Supply Chain leadership teams to identify and prioritize initiatives based on the evolution of the company and department
  • Identify and lead projects and process improvement initiatives while working cross-functionally with key business partners
  • Oversee the creation of department and cross-functional standard work processes and procedures that support driving documentation and standardization
  • Using continuous improvement tools and methodology to address complex problems

People Leadership

  • Recruit, manage, train, develop and ensure continuous improvement of technical and professional skills, high productivity and job satisfaction of all direct reports through effective leadership, evaluation, coaching, and training
  • Empower and trust the team to make the right decisions, build the culture to have a creative thinking and healthy dialog in the team that foster curiosity that drives change and innovation
  • Responsible for all Talent Management activities for the Operations team to ensure employee assessments, coaching, development, and management, are performed on a consistent basis
  • Accountable for staff direction and objectives, approve execution plans, and delegate tasks to deliver against business goals

Tactical and Operational

  • Collaborate regularly with Supply Chain leadership to ensure organizational objectives are supported with desired levels of carrier performance
  • Monitor and improve performance expectations with carriers and 3rd party companies
  • Monitor the health of carriers’ and 3PLs’ relationships and take the appropriate action
  • Develop standard methods of communicating operational performance to internal partners
  • Implementation of key logistics projects that will deliver significant cost savings and/or improvement in service
  • Implementation and/or auditing of transportation, 3PL, Cross Dock operations
  • Daily/Weekly/Monthly Logistics planning and monitoring

Analytical Skills

  • Identify and analyze trends to anticipate emerging issues and areas requiring action
  • Build business cases based on the improvement opportunities to present on an Executive level
  • Perform analysis for the development of project baseline values, primary/consequential metric, and trend reporting

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required:
    • Business, Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, Industrial Distribution, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent preferred
  • 5+ years of demonstrated experience in a transportation and logistics discipline
  • 3+ years effective leadership experience in a changing environment
  • High energy with a positive attitude, proving a desire to succeed. Ability to hit the ground running – a confident, entrepreneurial self-starter
  • Experience in driving best practice and process improvements in cross-functional teams
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deliverables and deadlines in a high change, fast-moving environment
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, direct and participate on projects bringing them to a final conclusion. Must be able to solicit ideas, encourage participation, resolve conflict and optimize resolutions
  • Experience analyzing large data sets and using that analysis to drive business plans and priorities with intermediate proficiency in programs including G-suite productivity tools, Microsoft Word, Excel, SQL, Access and other database and reporting tools. and Google G-Suite
  • Systemic thinking and problem solving. Ability to identify feasible solutions and to influence decisions with teams without direct management responsibility
  • Strong interpersonal skills that foster collaboration within a team, with business partners, and with cross-functional stakeholders at varying levels
