Maintenance Worker - Full Time Job at City of Winter Springs
Maintenance Workers perform general manual work and are responsible for maintaining city grounds, streets, sidewalks, stormwater drainage systems, water and sewer lines, and other City facilities. Work will include tasks such as plumbing, electrical, tiling, construction, painting, repairing and replacing locks, doors and windows as needed. As a Maintenance Worker I, it is expected to learn the basic tasks of facilities maintenance as well as equipment and tool usage and be able to run equipment such as bucket truck and fork lifts.
Main Responsibilities:
Performs basic required maintenance, repairs and renovation work.
Does a daily survey of assigned facility which includes making sure all mechanical equipment is functioning, Roof of facility is clear of debris and storm drains are open. and the exterior of the facility is clean.
Operate a fork lift when needed.
Operate a bucket truck as well as act as safety for other operators.
Operate small tools such as drills, hand saws, table saws and the like.
Drive a city vehicle to and from job sites as well as pick up supplies from vendors.
Assemble furniture as required.
Paint offices when assigned.
Change light bulbs when needed.
Ensure restroom facilities in assigned facility are functioning normally.
Fill drains with water to keep air seal effective.
Perform general landscaping work, grounds maintenance and trash removal.
Maintains city trees. Trims limbs and branches, removes trees as directed and collects and disposes of debris.
Maintains sidewalks and curbs. Collects and disposes of debris. Cleans sidewalks and curbs as directed utilizing general hand tools and power/pressure washing equipment.
Performs general inspection, maintenance, and repair of city water, sewer, stormwater and irrigation systems to include cleaning, excavation, repair, replacement and inspection of pipes, service connections, valves, fire hydrants, manholes, culverts, ditches, and inlet and outlet structures.
Performs general concrete and asphalt repair utilizing hand and power tools. Constructs concrete forms, mixes and pours concrete (sidewalks, curbs, driveways etc.).
Regular in-person attendance during City and department business hours, since face-to-face interaction and coordination of work with other employees, outside colleagues, residents, or vendors, and all immediate access to documents or other information located on in the workplace is required.
Maintains equipment and tools.
Operate light equipment and City Vehicles.

Minimum Requirements:
High School Diploma or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma – OR- two (2) years of related manual labor experience.
Basic knowledge of standard practices, methods, tools, and materials utilized in the maintenance of buildings and structures.
Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions involved with trades
Ability to understand and perform work to applicable codes.
The ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and written.
Capable of following written and oral instructions.
Licenses, Certifications, or Registrations:
MUST possess a valid FL Driver’s License
CDL preferred but not required
Working Hours and Environment:
Standard working hours will be from 7am to 4pm with a 1 hours lunch. These house can be adjusted by the supervisor as needed.
Due to special events and maintenance emergencies at the city, additional hours may be required after normal working hours in the evening or on weekends.
During and after a weather/environmental events additional hours may be required.
