Job Summary
Reporting to the Assistant Director of Plant Operations and Maintenance, the Maintenance Mechanic - Plumbing is responsible for performing preventative maintenance, installation, and repairs to various plumbing systems and equipment. The Mechanic may also be required to perform or assist with other tasks involving HVAC, mechanical, electrical, and construction.
Job Duties
Provide preventative maintenance and corrective repairs to various plumbing systems including sewer, domestic water, gas, and utility water systems.
Coordinate the inventory of materials necessary to provide general plumbing repairs.
Operate specialized equipment and hand tools common to the plumber’s trade.
Install and repair plumbing fixtures.
Read and interpret blueprints and drawings.
Learn all phases of physical plant operation.
Perform general repairs to building systems including HVAC, mechanical and electrical system.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent
Completion of an apprenticeship program for plumbers or five years of on-the-job training
Experience with typical building and plant maintenance procedures
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with local plumbing suppliers
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and construction procedures and techniques concentrated in the plumbing field
Knowledge of OSHA and ADA guidelines for physical plant
Willingness to pursue a planned program of skill improvement
Ability to work effectively with students, employees, and outside contractors
Knowledge of the use of two-way radios
Ability to climb and lift up to 75 pounds
Ability to take task from start to finish with little supervision
Technology Skills: basic computer skills
Position Schedule: 7:00am until 3:00pm, Monday-Friday.
