Summary:
The purpose of this position is to:
1. Supervise, provide and coordinate nursing care in compliance with facility policies and procedures and to assess residents care needs and take appropriate action;
2. Implement medication orders; to administer medications in an accurate and timely manner and
3. Implement treatment orders; to assess resident treatment needs and take appropriate action and to participate in supervision of care provided to residents.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide supervision to Caregivers and Med Techs.
- Interpret existing policies and procedures to Caregivers/Med Techs, residents, families and visitors.
- Keep abreast of current federal and state regulations, as they pertain to Nursing.
- Assist with the administrative authority, responsibility and accountability of directing the AL Department.
- Submit employee accident/incident reports to the HR Director within twenty-four (24) hours after their occurrence.
- Delegate administrative authority, responsibility and accountability to personnel as deemed necessary to perform their assigned duties and responsibilities.
- Supervise, evaluate and counsel all direct resident care for your assigned nursing unit and initiate corrective action as necessary. Ensure that disciplinary action is administered fairly and consistently, and without regard to race, color, creed, national origin, age, sex, religion, handicap or marital status.
- Participate in the employee evaluation process by providing information on the performance of Caregivers and Med Techs.
- Maintain a good working relationship with other department supervisors and managers.
- Ensure that work areas are maintained in a clean, safe, comfortable and attractive manner assuring necessary equipment and supplies are maintained and operable.
- Ensure that Caregivers and Med Techs follow established infection control procedures at all times.
- Ensure that Caregivers and Med Techs follow established procedures governing the use of labels and GHS/MSDSs.
- Ensure that only trained and authorized personnel operate departmental equipment and that they do so in a safe manner.
- Ensure that department equipment is cleaned and properly stored at the end of the shift(s).
- Report and participate in the investigation of all allegations of resident abuse, neglect and/or misappropriation of resident property.
- Meet with each resident on a regular basis to provide health and wellness-checks and answer any health-related questions.
- Review all resident information and complete an assessment of the resident prior to move-in, when changes in the resident’s condition occur, and as required by residence policy and state regulation.
- Review the resident’s medical report prior to move-in to ensure that the facility can provide for the resident’s individual needs and regulatory requirements have been fulfilled.
- Order medications and oversee the resident’s medication schedule for residents receiving medication administration services. · Ensure proper documentation for medication assistance/administration
- Assist the AL Manager to develop and maintain an up-to-date individual service plan for each resident.
- Maintain ongoing communication with the resident, resident’s family and physician regarding the resident’s medical needs.
- Coordinate additional health services the resident may need.
- Assist with counseling residents and families.
