You will be responsible for providing policy wording and technical underwriting guidance and support to the Regions outside of North America who have the need to place local coverage. Your performance and contributions as a reverse flow underwriter will have a direct impact on the productivity, accuracy, and efficiency of the underwriting process.
About The Team
The International Programs team is critical to the ongoing growth and success of Swiss Re Corporate Solutions. We are reimagining international program solutions. With our fully integrated technology platform, and access to our global network and expertise, we help customers reduce complexity for their business.
This team is critical to the underwriting process by performing the following duties and responsibilities:
- High interaction and coordination with Operations as well as other functional areas such as Finance, Contracts and Wording, Compliance, Claims, Products and Underwriting colleagues from around the globe.
- Formulate answers to questions, reviewing files, records, and other documentation as needed; disseminate or explain information and resolve issues.
- Read, coordinate and work with detailed source documents from external customer information, determine appropriate next steps. Compose business correspondence, collaborate and handle the development/maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures, system and tool improvements and testing/piloting system and process changes.
- High level of competency on more complex International Business processes, tools and systems, to act as a resource and coach for others, answering questions and providing direction.
- Proactively problem solve to meet and exceed client/broker expectations with internal standards. Participate in ongoing reviews and task analysis, making recommendations from which business decisions are based.
- Follow-up with Producing Office Underwriters or others on outstanding items and documentation. Work on identifying process/system improvement concepts, and critical success factors for achieving high results in operations.
- Attend meetings, seminars, and training programs to learn new skills, and stay updated with the latest Unites States Casualty Underwriting trends and international regulations.
- Adhere to established performance standards and metrics applicable to the business divisions supported.
Key Responsibilities
- Service large corporate and mid-market casualty reverse-flow International Programs by reviewing North America local policies and endorsements in line with Underwriting Guidelines, agreed exceptions and regulatory framework
- Collaborates with Integrated Risk Solutions team to provide bespoke solutions for both fully fronted, reinsurance of captive and/or indemnity structured programs.
- Effectively use Swiss Re tools and systems for oversight of local servicing policies
- Ensure International Program guidelines are adhered to and keep casualty insurance knowledge up to date
- Strong business and client focus with proven record of delivering high service standards
- External communication with brokers, as requested, requiring competent technical know-how, language skills, initiative, and service orientation
- Ability and proven track record of handling complex international accounts/transactions
- Identifies changes and improvements for the information resource platform Knowledge Tool relating to the North American casualty market
- Evaluate and respond to pre-bind exception requests from Producing Office
- Ability to identify and lead internal (technical/organizational) projects to improve process
- Provide training / general guidance to producing offices.
- Works effectively within client teams
About You
- University graduate with a Minimum 2 to 5 years of underwriting experience
- In depth knowledge of insurance, commercial casualty underwriting including General Liability, Employee Benefits Liability, Automobile Liability, Employers Liability, Umbrella and Excess and the casualty insurance market
- Experience in International Program casualty underwriting and design
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to explain sophisticated technical issues to a non-expert audience
- Strong analytical skills, organization skills, and attention to detail
- Strong customer focus and service orientation and have excellent digital literacy
- Ability to complete work independently and possess strong interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with others while being sensitive to cultural differences
- Agile and flexible, ability to operate within a changing environment
- Demonstrates proficiency in the use of underwriting tools, applications, and guidelines
- Takes accountability for areas of responsibility
- Demonstrates willingness to seek new knowledge and tasks, questions current processes, and able to suggest improvements
For New York City the estimated base salary range for this position is $83,000 to $150,000. The specific salary offered for this or any given role will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to job location, scope of role, qualifications, complexity/specialization/scarcity of talent, experience, education, and employer budget. At Swiss Re, we take a "total compensation approach" when making compensation decisions. This means that we consider all components of compensation in their totality (such as base pay, short-and long-term incentives, and benefits offered), in setting individual compensation.
