WHAT YOU WILL DO
The Youth Services Manager sets priorities and leads the development, implementation, and evaluation of services and events for youth, families, and caregivers at Dakota County Library. This position reports to the Library Deputy Director, contributes to the team that leads service development in person and online, and supervises the Youth Outreach and Programming Coordinator. The Youth Services Manager leads project teams and provides guidance to youth services staff working in all library locations. This individual builds relationships with County stakeholders and community partners to align efforts and resources to meet diverse community needs and interests.

Minimum Qualifications

Master of Library Science degree from an ALA-accredited program AND three years of direct experience in planning services and events for youth and families

OR

Bachelor’s degree in education, youth development, social sciences or a related field AND five or more years of direct experience in planning services and events for youth and families

OR

An equivalent combination of education and experience to total nine years.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS BEYOND MINIMUM REQUIRED:

  • People management or supervisory experience
  • Project management experience
  • Experience working with diverse populations and clients with limited English proficiency
  • Bilingual skills are desirable

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide system-wide leadership and coordination for events and services for youth, birth through grade 12, families, and caregivers.
  • Work closely with leadership to develop strategic priorities and plans in line with community assets and needs, strategic plan goals, and resources.
  • Identify trends and innovations relevant to impactful library youth services.
  • Perform needs assessments and evaluations to inform priorities, planning, and decision-making.
  • Manage projects and facilitate project teams.
  • Motivate and advise staff who provide youth services through mentoring, consulting, and creating development opportunities.
  • Develop and strengthen key partnerships with community organizations, County Departments, and Twin Cities Metro libraries to establish a robust network to inform and support program and service development.
  • Manage budgets and contracts for youth services.
  • Supervise the Youth Program and Outreach Coordinator.
  • Contribute to Library communication and social media efforts by identifying initiatives in need of promotion and sharing content.

  • Demonstrated decision-making ability based on collaborative and analytic processes which takes varied views into consideration.
  • Ability to provide effective leadership and work direction.
  • Ability to effectively develop and support teams.
  • Ability to communicate effectively through listening, meeting facilitation, writing, and speaking.
  • Ability to work effectively with a culturally diverse workforce and community embracing cultural, interpersonal, and all other facets of diversity.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work is sedentary and requires no special physical demands. The work involves minimal risks and observance of safety precautions typical of office settings. The work is typically performed in an adequately lighted and climate-controlled office buildings with options for remote work.
