Lead Teacher - Infants Job at Tinycare

Tinycare Lafayette, CA 94549

A BIT ABOUT US

*
Tinycare was founded a bit over a year ago with a mission to reinvent childcare. We run a village of urban micro-centers combining the intimacy and small ratios of a traditional home-based daycare with the support and consistency of a center-based model. This hybrid model promotes nurturing children, supporting families, and valuing educators. We are Montessori, Reggio Emilia and Waldorf inspired, believe in whole child development and creating intentional, beautiful and natural environments for children. We believe in supporting educators by providing subsidized housing to the Head Teacher, professional development and potential career pathways, operational and licensing support, and low child: teacher ratios - with a total of no more than 4 children in our infant classrooms, which is led by two teachers.

As a start-up organization based in Silicon Valley, we embrace emerging technologies and tools that support the operation of consistent, high-quality care centers, but we are committed to a screen-free model that puts a primacy on rich experiences, the development of meaningful relationships, and frequent opportunities for imagination and exploration.

THE OPPORTUNITY

Tinycare was founded on the idea of giving experienced early childhood teachers an opportunity to open their own small-ratio, well-supported at-home care centers in the vibrant communities of America’s largest cities. By providing subsidized housing and supporting our teachers with the operational, talent, and licensing support that often prohibits teachers from starting their own centers, Tinycare allows passionate educators to focus on providing consistent, joyful care for young children and their families alike.

As an Infant Head Teacher, you will lead your own community of 3-24 month olds and their families, partnering with a full-time co-teacher. You will be creating curriculum, building relationships with families, providing 1:1 training and mentoring for your co-teacher, as well as managing your materials, space, and budget.

WITHIN 1 MONTH, YOU’LL

  • Deeply learn our values including how we speak to children, including serve-and-return and positive discipline approaches
  • Internalize the core elements and practices of the Tinycare model, and begin to execute lessons and activities for individuals and small groups
  • Connect with the Tinycare Team to learn more about our history, mission, and plans for the future
  • Meet and co-plan with your co-teacher to prepare for opening or inheriting a Tinycare infant program
  • Meet with families to build relationships and learn more about their children and what they are seeking in the Tinycare experience
  • Plan for your initial four weeks of instruction, and transition into the Head Teacher role and begin developing your Tinycare community

WITHIN 3 MONTHS, YOU’LL

  • Tailor your opening plans to ensure you are providing consistently high quality, nurturing care and rich learning experiences for your children
  • Create stronger relationships across the Tinycare team, and especially with your fellow Head Teachers
  • Begin standards-based observations for children to support parent communication and partnership
  • Engage in a cohort-based professional development model focused on fomenting leadership skills and expanding your impact

WITHIN 6 MONTHS, YOU’LL

  • Constantly build on your first months to ensure you are providing personalized instruction for each child based on their interests and developmental needs
  • Provide your co-teacher with opportunities to take on additional planning, execution, and community responsibilities (as their readiness improves)
  • Expand on your initial investments in your community to incorporate field trips and learning excursions, community events, and collaboration across the Tinycare team
  • In conjunction with your manager, develop a personalized growth plan that identifies areas you want to gain exposure and grow skill in the pursuit of future opportunities
