Laser Operator

Summary

We are searching for a Laser Operator to join our growing team. This individual will be responsible for set up and operation of laser cutting machines to produce products meeting customer quality requirements.

Employment Type: Full-Time

Regular Schedule:

1st shift: 4 AM - 2PM (Monday - Thursday) OR 6 AM - 2PM (Monday - Thursday) 4AM - Noon (Friday)

2nd shift: 2PM - Midnight (Monday - Thursday)

Overtime on Fridays (twice per month)

Pay: Starting at $17.50 + $ 2.00 attendance bonus + Company Gainshare and Shift Premium for 2nd shift

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Manage laser operations – setting up and operating laser, loading and unloading material, changing screens and nozzles, and running the required production programs.
• Ensure that customer orders are completed in a timely manner, while maximizing machine run time and productivity.
• Read part drawings, blueprints, and work instructions to ensure parts are cut to customer specifications.
• Load and unload material on the laser and load towers using a forklift.
• Modify cut conditions, speeds, feeds and focus to ensure quality cut, optimal machine operation, and efficiency with both oxygen and nitrogen.
• Measure and inspect dimensions of in-process and finished product using precision measuring instruments to ensure conformance to specifications.
• Resolve quality and mechanical problems, making minor equipment adjustments as needed.
• Inspect and maintain workplace and equipment for compliance with safety requirements.
• Perform preventative maintenance on a daily, weekly and quarterly basis.
• Clean machines, tooling and parts using cleaning materials or supplies provided.
• Set up future jobs on other lasers while machines are operating and cutting.
• Work and cross-train in other work centers as assigned to develop knowledge, skills, and abilities (SKA’s).
• Complete all other duties as assigned.

Required Skills, Abilities, and Qualifications

• At least one year of laser operation and set-up experience.
• Knowledge of cutting steel and stainless steel.
• Knowledge of cutting with both oxygen and nitrogen gases.
• Ability to problem solve and work independently.
• Proficient math and computer skills – ability to count and calculate fractions, dimensions, and tolerances according to customer and production specifications.
• Ability to read blueprints, work instructions and part numbers.
• Ability to use inspection equipment (calipers, gauges, protractors, etc).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
