Shift/Hours/Location: M-F, 2pm-11pm (Rotation Weekend), Onsite, Moses Lake, WA
WHAT YOU WILL BE WORKING ON
- Ensure safety goals and supporting systems are clearly communicated, effectively implemented, and continuously improved to enable supporting MLI corporate safety, regulatory, and environmental protection goals are always the first consideration.
- Communicate, model, and fully support MLI corporate core values and culture goals ensuring all staff and systems are aligned with goals.
- Ensure customer and industry quality standards and expectations are clearly communicated and supported by all Laboratory staff and systems.
- Enable workflow by ensuring all Laboratory staff are properly equipped with the skills and equipment needed to perform job tasks.
- Motivate and coach Laboratory staff to execute all workflows and tasks to MLI’s safety, culture, and quality expectations.
- Drive the establishment of communication systems such as meetings, visual communication boards, dashboards, written reports, and other means that effectively convey departmental objectives and key results, key performance indicators, and other metrics.
- Maintain positive and effective relationships within the department and with external stakeholders (e.g., production departments, quality assurance, human resources, product managers, etc.) to support alignment and execution of departmental and corporate initiatives.
- Analyze key performance indicator trends, escalate concerns, and provide recommendations to laboratory leadership promptly.
- Communicate within the Laboratory department and with other MLI departments/customers to establish priorities, ensure clear communication of status, report high confidence analytical results in a timely manner, and escalate technical concerns, questions, and issues to the appropriate subject matter experts and lab leadership promptly, as needed.
- Fully support the development and transfer of analytical methods for new product introduction and continuous improvement to support achievement of customer roadmaps, corporate growth, and market metrics identifying personnel with the appropriate skills sets and allocating time to support training and transfer deliverables.
- Delegate job duties to Assistant Supervisor(s), Leads, and Laboratory staff as appropriate.
- Execute and document performance management systems including performance reviews, accountability systems such as verbal coaching and written counseling are executed and documented effectively.
- Ensure departmental standard operating procedures for analytical methods and maintenance processes are current, clearly documented, and executed effectively as written.
- Working with training coordinator, training department, and subject matter experts, ensure Laboratory staff training systems are efficient, effective, and aligned with current standard operating procedures.
- Drive execution of processes to ensure compliance with safety, culture, and quality goals including auditing processes, performing job observations, spot checks, and other methods of ensuring that all procedures are documented with appropriate detail, training is efficient and effective, and procedures are executed as documented.
- Partner effectively with internal and interdepartmental stakeholders and subject matter experts, support troubleshooting, investigating to determine root cause, problem solving, and development/timely implementation of effective containment and corrective actions. Verify the effectiveness of containment and corrective actions monitoring trends and making recommendations for improvement to laboratory leadership.
- Identify and implement strategies to reduce human error.
- Review and process employee time management systems including, timeliness of staff arrival and departures, management of effective use of overtime, processing of timecards and time off requests to ensure adequate coverage for achievement of safety, culture, quality, and departmental key performance indicator metrics.
- Identify and partner with the Lab Training Coordinator to drive execution of training to current and roadmap skills requirements and document individual staff training needs and expectations. Ensure adequate time and support is allocated for training team members.
- Manage staffing levels, shift schedules, and time off requests are dispositioned to ensure adequate staff for safety and quality metrics including achievement of work-life balance and overtime cost management.
- Partner with human resources to conduct new employee recruiting, candidate screening, interviews, make hiring recommendations, execute departmental onboarding, employee relations discipline/Leave management and facilitate staff separations when necessary.
- Assess staffing levels, compare to forecasts and department strategies to ensure staffing levels are appropriate for current, roadmap, and business continuity goals. Recommend staffing changes to support roadmaps to department leadership in a timely manner.
- Ensure use of computers, teams, cell phone and other resources is appropriate and in alignment with departmental and corporate guidelines.
- Prepare weekly summary report of activities, projects, priorities including needs and risks for achievement of objectives to established standards and timelines.
- Complete purchase and maintenance work requests as needed.
- Other duties as assigned to promote a high functioning team.

QUALIFICATIONS
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- 5 to 8 years of relevant experience in an industrial setting.
- 3+ years of experience in a leadership role.
- Demonstrate excellent judgment and willingness to escalate as needed to resolve questions or concerns that could affect team member’s safety, the quality of work product, or completion of critical tasks to the agreed-upon schedules.
- Ability to read, understand apply information in Material Safety Data Sheets to ensure safe handling and use of chemicals and laboratory apparatus.
- Regular and punctual attendance is expected to accomplish the critical mission of the department and organization.
- Perform necessary tasks and work hours needed to accomplish department and company goals.
- Work as a productive member of a cohesive group toward a common goal and contribute to team development and effective team dynamics.
- Demonstrate accountability by accepting responsibility for yourself and your actions that results in anticipation and prevention of problem areas, and problem solving inside and outside the department.
- Attention to detail and responsibility for a thorough and detailed method of working.
- Computer literacy including ability to use software to prepare and revise reports and documents, analyze and present data, and model chemical concepts.
- Working knowledge of computers and MS Office software.
- Exceptional written and verbal communications, including presentation skills, in English.
- Demonstrated ability to: maintain a high level of integrity at all times while being courteous, tactful, and cooperative with co-workers, management, and customers both internal and external.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree or associate of Arts Degree in Sciences preferred.

Please note that the salary information shown below is a general guideline only. Salaries are based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
Summary pay range: $65,000.00 to $95,000.00

WORKING CONDITIONS
Duties are generally performed indoors in an office and high purity manufacturing environment. The noise level in the manufacturing work environment is occasionally loud. Employees will work in a covered Process Safety Management (PSM) environment containing threshold quantities of flammable liquids and/or gasses that have a potential for fire or explosion. Employees working in this environment are required to be free from devices that are not considered intrinsically safe.
