Laboratory Assistant Job at Eastland Memorial Hospital
JOB SUMMARY: Under supervision of the Clinical Laboratory Manager or appropriate professional staff, performs waived laboratory procedures in accordance with standards established in the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) and/or hospital protocol.
Requirements:JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
A. Education: High school graduate or equivalent.
B. Personal Job-Related Skills: Must have good science and manual skills. Needs to be practical, careful and accurate when recording and testing samples. Employees in the position also need to have an eye for detail. They need to have a thorough understanding of laboratory safety and a basic understanding of biological science.
C. Licensure, Registry or Certification: Certification by the National Certification Agency for Phlebotomy (ASCP), (NHA) or Medical Assistant is preferred but not required.
D. Experience:
- Prior Work Experience: 1 year of clinical laboratory experience, or any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities for the position. (Open to new graduates)
- Technical Training: Basic computer experience preferred. CPR preferred.
E. Physical and Mental Requirements: Duties of the position require moderate periods of sitting, standing and walking. Lifting up to 30 pounds when moving supplies or equipment, may be required. Duties of the position require an eye for detail. Duties involve testing body fluids and tissue, so employees need to be safety-conscious and not squeamish. Medical Laboratory Assistants should be fit and healthy with good hand-eye coordination, have good eyesight (with or without glasses) and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to read and comprehend packaged instructions. Must have knowledge of specimen collection, principles of laboratory quality control and quality assurance.
The work environment noise level is moderate.
