SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:
The IT Engineer is primarily responsible for supporting the enterprise computer systems used by the users at MRG and affiliated organizations. This support includes managing, maintaining, and optimizing systems assigned to the IT Engineer. IT Engineers ensure that the systems assigned to them have the highest degree of confidentiality, integrity, and accessibility. Furthermore, the IT Engineer actively seeks to improve the systems assigned to him/her. The IT Engineer is secondarily responsible for supporting the computer users at MRG and affiliated organizations. The IT Engineer the subject matter expert for the systems assigned to him/her.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
General
1. Reports to work as scheduled and on time per policy with predictable regular attendance. Time away from work is approved and taken in accordance with established policies.

2. Takes all reasonable steps to maintain confidentiality of all information related to patients, medical staff, employees, and as appropriate, other information, ensuring compliance with HIPAA mandates.

3. Demonstrates positive interpersonal communication skills. Recognizes and respects differences in the workplace. Demonstrates openness, sensitivity and commitment to coworkers, patients, family members, and visitors to MRG.

4. Consistently demonstrates and incorporates principles of workplace safety. Maintains current knowledge of disaster policies and participates appropriately in disaster drills. Expresses and applies principles of body mechanics to prevent injury and accidents.

5. Displays consistent commitment to customer service and teamwork. Displays personal behavior that has a positive impact for the team.

6. Demonstrates personal commitment to staying current in field of knowledge, expanding knowledge and skill, and contributing to organizational success.

7. Displays ability to work in an ever-changing environment and participate constructively in change processes.

8. Attends staff meetings, completes education program as requested or approved by MRG.

9. Willingness to provide occasional on call support.

Job Expectations
  • Installs, tests, maintains, and monitors computer programs and systems with minimal direction
  • Manages the ongoing security of assigned computer programs and systems
  • Ensures parity between development, test and production environments
  • Maintains daily business continuity efforts, including backups, downtime environments, and high availability systems
  • Documents all system configurations and procedures in such a way that fellow IT employees can use them
  • Performs periodic system performance tuning
  • Researches core system issues when they arise, resolving basic, intermediate, and advanced issues where able, and elevates problem to vendor support when necessary. Knows when to elevate an issue for timely resolution.
  • Confers with clients regarding business needs and customizes technical solutions to meet these needs
  • Builds consensus with management
  • Cross trains staff on primary systems to ensure the continuity of service
  • Acts as a help-desk agent by providing staff and users with assistance solving computer related problems, such as malfunctions and application problems
  • Monitors helpdesk system and works through tickets at a sufficient rate
  • Makes and receives phone calls for the help desk
  • Follows up with customers to ensure issue has been resolved
  • Works to establish guidelines, policies, and procedures for IT systems.
  • Performs research, including cost/benefit analysis, of computer equipment.
  • Determines and recommends the best hardware/software solutions to meet MRG’s needs.
  • Acts as the primary point of contact with vendors, negotiating favorable price and terms for systems that MRG purchases.
  • Supports MRG’s relationships by communicating with strategic partners and furthering MRG’s objectives.
  • Other related duties as required.
  • No direct supervision of others.
  • Influences departmental budget but does not have budgetary authority.

Targeted Job Expectations - IT Engineers specialize in several areas within IT. The specific areas and expectations are as follows:

Storage/Virtualization Engineer
  • Administers supporting infrastructure, including SANs, NASs, virtual hosts, virtualization software, and other iSCSI endpoints.
  • Manages storage environment, optimizes storage usage, performs provisioning and capacity planning
  • Configures virtual environment for high availability and disaster recovery scenarios
  • Provisions additional virtual servers as needed by MRG
  • Configures, manages, and monitors all backups for servers Installs and upgrades physical servers used to support MRG’s virtual and physical systems
  • Monitors and repairs physical servers to ensure continual service
  • Working familiarity with VMWare and Veeam preferred


QUALIFICATIONS:

Education
Requires minimum of 5+ years of IT experience and a bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience. BS in Information Technology and related technical certifications preferred. May have an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

  • Occasionally work near moving mechanical parts, loud noises, and high, precarious places
  • Occasionally work around fumes, airborne particles, or toxic chemicals, infectious/bloodborne agents
