Job Overview
Instructional specialists work closely with school principals and assistant principals across the Excellence Community School district to plan and provide professional learning experiences that are responsive to teacher and student needs. Instructional specialists are responsible for guiding instruction through coaching and supporting curriculum development efforts based on feedback from data-informed decision-making.
Responsibilities Include:
- Supporting the development and implementation of our instructional plan for students in grades Pre-K through 5th grade.
- Ensure that instructional plans are aligned to common core standards, school-wide performance goals and performance expectations.
- Model instructional practices in a variety of settings, including the classroom, and provide follow-up support to ensure effective teacher implementation.
- Provide on-going instructional support and coaching for teachers.
- Evaluate and recommend new research-based instructional materials.
- Participate in frequent classroom visits to strengthen reflective conversations about effective practice.
- Lead classroom observation protocols to address instructional problems of practice.
- Develop, monitor and implement assessment plans.
- Facilitate and lead professional development offerings that align with district and school improvement efforts.
- Create rigorous formative assessments to progress monitor student mastery of CCSS.
- Collect, analyze, and use assessment data to assist teachers with planning responsive instruction that improves outcomes.
- Analyze network trends and create plans accordingly.
- Work with teachers and colleagues to calibrate and communicate expectations for meeting standards.
- Provide personalized guidance and support to teachers based on observations.
- Support faculty in curriculum development, and promotion of effective classroom instruction and management.
- Support, prepare, and submit requisite reports in a timely manner.
- Analyze student data, identify instructional gaps and provide research-based instructional strategies to improve student learning.
- Monitor the effectiveness of the written curriculum using achievement data, teacher feedback, and classroom observations and modify as needed.
- Other related tasks contingent upon district needs.
Requirements
Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of Pre-K through 5 CCSS and state assessments.
- Previous experience in leadership role preferred.
- Minimum three years of successful teaching experience required.
- Strong track record of high student achievement required.
- Experience with and commitment to improving the quality of urban education, specifically for scholars who have been traditionally underserved required.
- Note: This is a 12-month position.
