BOOST is helping one of our clients hire a Non-Destructive Inspector, Evaluator and Tester to support a contract with the United States Coast Guard (USCG) Aviation Logistics Center (ALC) in Elizabeth City, NC. ALC provides logistics and depot maintenance support to all U.S. Coast Guard aviation assets including the C-27J Spartan, HC-144 Ocean Sentry, C-130 H/J Hercules, MH-60T Jayhawk, and MH-65D/E Dolphin.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as an NDI level II inspector on repaired, overhauled, re-worked, manufactured and investigative aircraft and aircraft related components. Report all inspection findings in accordance with ALC policy.
  • Select appropriate Non-Destructive Testing method and inspect specified or questionable areas on assembled or disassembled aircraft frames, engines, and related components, also encompassing parts in various stages of fabrication or repair.
  • Upon discovery of a discontinuity, evaluate and interpret indications, extent of cracking, damage, or corrosion to determine a suitable solution. Initiate necessary documented reports of findings for corrective action by the concerned Product Line.
  • Perform follow-up inspections of areas reworked because of NDT finding to ensure adequacy of corrective action taken.
  • Coordinate with Industrial Operations engineering and NDI personnel on instances of inadequate documentation of testing methods and techniques, prior to commencing work.
  • Serve as NDI Level II Inspector with assignments across all ALC divisions as required and be responsible for the acceptance and rejection of aircraft parts. Document work performed and submit to the ALC NDI Level III Program Manager for archiving.
  • Perform other NDI services as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience Requirements

  • Possess a minimum of four (4) years of aviation NDI experience and have been previously qualified or certified as an NDI Level II or equivalent under a DOD Aviation NDI Program (e.g., USN/USMC, USAF, US ARMY), a program following NAS410 Standards (e.g., USCG, commercial), or an equivalent NDI Program. If (4) years of aviation NDI experience was acquired under a certification by The American Society for Nondestructive Testing (ASNT) to a Level II or ASNT Central Certification Program (ACCP) Level II General Category, it is acceptable in lieu of DOD, NAS410 or equivalent program. Required experience is in any of the following four (4) NDI methods: Liquid Penetrant Testing (LPT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MPT), Eddy current Testing (ET), and Ultrasonic Testing (UT).
  • If a current NDI Level II certification is not held, a USCG Level III Non-Destructive Inspector may certify the applicant. In this case, applicant must be certifiable to a Level II IAW the NAS410 in the following methods: Liquid Penetrant Testing (LPT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MPT), Eddy Current Testing (ET), and Ultrasonic Testing (UT) and have the minimum amount of training and experience for each of the following methods IAW NAS410:
    • 32hrs formal training - 400hrs experience for Liquid Fluorescent Penetrant Method.
    • 32hrs formal training - 530hrs experience for Magnetic Particle Method.
    • 80hrs formal training - 800hrs experience for Eddy Current method.
    • 80hrs formal training - 800hrs experience for Ultrasonic Method.
  • Possess knowledge of aircraft structure, aircraft components, aircraft assemblies, and aircraft metallic and non-metallic materials.
  • Possess knowledge of manufacturing processes of metallic components.
  • Ability to arrive at technically accurate conclusions and provide recommendations based on the findings.
  • Skilled in the use of standard and specialist tools of the NDI disciplines required.
  • Knowledgeable of the following technical orders and standards that guide the USCG NDI program:
    • Airforce TO 33B-1-1 / Navy (NAVAIR) 0l-1A-16-1 Nondestructive Inspection Methods Basic Theory
    • Airforce TO 33B-1-2 / Navy (NAVAIR) 01-1A-16-2 Nondestructive Inspection General Procedures and Process Controls.

Physical Requirements

  • A vision exam is required annually, meeting one of the following Near Vision requirements in accordance with (IAW) National Aerospace Standard 410 (NAS410):
    • Tumbling E in accordance with ISO 18490.
    • 20/25 (Snellen) at 16" +/- 1" in at least one eye natural or corrected.
    • Jaeger No. 1 at not less than 12" in at least one eye natural or corrected. Must provide a current near vision exam before taking USCG certification exams.
  • Capable of adequately distinguishing and differentiating colors used in all processes involving NDI methods IAW NAS410.
  • This position requires physical activity including walking, standing, bending, kneeling, crawling, sitting for prolonged periods, occasionally climbing check stands/ aircraft structures, working in tight or awkward positions, and handling objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

Work Authorization Requirements

  • Valid authorization to work in the U.S.
  • Ability to acquire DHS suitability.
  • Ability to work on-site full-time in Elizabeth City, NC.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Clear written and oral communication skills are a must.
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to work effectively independently and in team settings to include close collaboration with program managers and client personnel.
