Position Description: Visitor Center Information Specialist
OVERALL PURPOSE Provides professional, friendly, and personal service to visitors and callers of the Visitor Center to generate spending and economic impact throughout the destination. Represents a direct and official resource to visitors of the Center by providing travel information and other visitor services in-person, over the phone, and online. Goals for this position are defined by accuracy, project deadlines and professional/personal customer-focused performance metrics/criteria. Information Specialists provide direct assistance and support to the Manager and CVB team.
PRIMARY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY (Essential Functions)
A. Visitor Services Hospitality & Customer Experience Champion
- Greets incoming visitors, answering the telephone, assisting with destination inquiries, and forwarding/coordinating incoming staff calls in an extremely professional, competent, and friendly way to entice visitors to want to spend time and money in the area.
- Provides accurate and detailed oral, written, and digital information on things to see and do in the area to enhance the visitor experience, including distributing materials/tools, brochures, trail guides, audio driving tours via CDs or downloads.
- Assists with information-gathering and research.
- Monitors and maintains inventory stock levels and accurate rack placement of brochures/materials/CDs
- Fills Orders for Welcome Packets with specified brochures.
- Fulfills requests for Travel Guides via online orders through the CVB website.
- Updates database customer software with Daily Logs and related visitor information..
- General office cleaning duties.
- Assists with general administrative support for the organization to create an effective team environment.
- Performs other duties as assigned by Manager.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
A. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- High School diploma, or the equivalent, with specialized training or experience in related customer service and administrative functions.
- At least one year’s experience working with the public and handling customer requests.
- Demonstrated experience in general administration and data entry along with basic search engine, social media trends and application.
B. SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE
- Utilizes a special skillset to handle a defined, diverse set of tasks in following instructions and understanding and practicing established procedures and policies.
- Ability to focus on, perform and complete assigned tasks and responsibilities during the scheduled work period in a timely manner.
- Excellent oral communication skills with individuals, managers, and staff in face-to-face and telephone situations. Ability to determine and respond to visitors’ and managers’ interests and needs effectively.
- Strong organizational skills
- Knowledge of the surrounding geographical area, attractions, businesses, events, etc. is required..
- Must have a solid basic level of knowledge and usage of MS Office programs.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $12.00 - $13.50 per hour
Schedule:
- 4 hour shift
- 8 hour shift
- Monday to Friday
Ability to commute/relocate:
- Shipshewana, IN 46565: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Preferred)
Experience:
- Customer service: 1 year (Preferred)
