The Information & Referral Specialist II position acts as the point of entry to Opportunity Council for community members by delivering basic needs services and resources and assisting with access to Opportunity Council programs. This position supports lobby and site operations, coordinates communications across client service sites, provides main reception telephone service, front desk and window service, and serves as a central contact for community members, human services partners, and internal departments.

Your job responsibilities as an Information & Referral Specialist II include:

Opportunity Council Point of Entry and Contact

  • Respond to walk-ins, phone calls, emails, and chats to help guide clients, service providers, vendors, and donors to appropriate contacts internal and external to the agency
  • Manage communication exchange of messages, packages, and paperwork on behalf of program staff to clientele
  • Maintain and organize lobby area for client and employee access
  • Assist clients with completing paperwork, making copies, scanning, and faxing documents

Community Resource Center Entry Point

  • Provide resources and services for programs including for housing, employment, financial assistance, behavioral health, health care, basic needs, food access, legal services, and social services
  • Perform screenings, intakes, and eligibility assessments with clients seeking agency and community services.
  • Provide direct services including: Triaging client needs to appropriately refer and facilitate access to resources and programs; diversion conversations and intakes for the housing coordinated entry system; assisting clients with connection to crisis services; internal and external resource information, navigation, and referral; basic food application assistance; appointment scheduling

Other Duties

  • Maintain client records for compliance, program contracts, and continuity of service.
  • Provide community outreach to share community resource information

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Experience in human services, preferably in issues of homelessness, mental illness and chemical dependency.
  • Experience in providing non-confrontational, professional customer service to emotionally elevated clients in high stress, crisis situations while utilizing sound judgment, decision making,and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide confidential services effectively and respectfully to diverse populations, preferably those including low-income individuals and families in crisis.
  • Ability to navigate multiple resource databases, spreadsheets, calendars, and online staff address book.
  • Experience coordinating services and appointments with other professionals and social service agencies.
  • (Preferred) Bilingual in Spanish and English (writing, reading, and speaking)

Special Requirements:

  • Must have Washington State driver's license at time of hire.
  • Required to provide five (5) year driving history/abstract prior to first day of employment. Must be insurable under Opportunity Council's insurance for duration of employment in this position.
  • All employees must be fully vaccinated with a WHO-approved two-dose COVID-19 vaccine prior to their first day of employment

Remote Work: This is an on-site position.

Essential Employee: This position is an essential employee who ensures the continuity of critical functions and business operations at Opportunity Council. This position will be expected to report to work on-site (or remotely at the discretion of the position's supervisor) even if Opportunity Council is otherwise closed for services and operations due to weather, public health emergency, or similar event.

Working Conditions: Work is generally performed in a fast–paced office and client/public-facing, direct services environment with frequent interruptions and occasional crisis situations. May require travel within the agency’s service area for meetings, special workshops, trainings, and other job-related activities.
