JOB SUMMARY:
The Physician for Infectious Disease/HIV Care provides direction to the organization with respect to HIV medical care. In addition to serving as the primary clinical consultant in Infectious Disease, this physician keeps staff clinicians abreast of developments in HIV medicine and actively pursues opportunities to further develop and improve the HIV care that CBHS provides. This Physician for HIV Clinical Care collaborates closely with the Lead Physician for HIV Research to provide unified leadership in Infectious Disease. This position represents CBHS to the medical and patient communities, as well as the community at-large, as an expert in HIV Medicine
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teamwork
- Provides direction to the organization with respect to Infectious Disease issues
- Functions as CBHS’ primary clinical consultant in Infectious Disease
- Collaborates with Pharmacy staff in maximizing an HIV formulary and assisting the pharmacy in seeking inclusions of HIV agents in MCO formularies as they become FDA approved
Communication
- Keeps CBHS clinical staff aware of updates to Infectious Disease guidelines and new research findings through regular presentations at staff meetings
- Ensures that medical staff and other interested/involved departments (nursing, CMOD) are aware of current clinical trials and enrollment criteria
- Represents CBHS to the medical and patient Communities, as well as the community at-large, as an expert in HIV medicine
- Reads and responds to e-mail in a timely manner
- Answers phone calls/pages within 30 minutes
- Serves on MST Task Force
- Responds promptly to queries from sponsors about specific cases
- Participates in internal committees and teams as requested
- Is an activist for his/her patients (data sources: peer review, chart audits)
- Advocates for referral to MST for HIV patients starting ARV’s or changing ARV’s

- Applies the Care Model to patient care
- Maintains the standard of clinical care, using diagnostic testing appropriately yet
Cost-effective, and providing appropriate treatment
- Assesses for barriers and assets in a patient’s social environment that are likely to affect health outcomes
Problem Solving and Decision Making
- Reviews research patients’ labs within 2 working days of receipt and takes appropriate action if abnormal
Patient Focus
- Effectively engages patients in their care.
- Makes sure that patient calls are returned (by self or other staff) within 2 working
days
- Addresses patient concerns brought up during visit, and documents assessment and
plan for these concerns
Professionalism
- Demonstrates professionalism and integrity in all aspects of patient care
Workplace Computer and Equipment
- Maintains complete, legible, and comprehensive documentation
- Utilizes EMR resources to manage patient care, flags, protocols, referrals
- Serves on MST Task Force and advocates for referral to MST for all HIV patients starting a new medication regimen or undergoing a medication regimen change.
Checking, Examining & Recording
- Consistently completes progress notes of patient encounters by end of next business day
- Consistently removes inactive medications from patient’s med lists
- Consistently removes inactive medications from patient’s problem lists
- Is timely with respect to completion of necessary paperwork such as disability forms
- Completes paperwork and billing in a timely and complete manner
- Completes clinic billing and coding documentation in a complete and accurate manner
- Documents social history (ever) in 90% of patients seen at least 3 times as PCP.
- Allergies are documented (ever) in 90% of patients seen at least 3 times as PCP.
- Health habits and risk factors are documented (ever) in 90% of patients seen at least 3 times as PCP.
- Sexual history is updated within the last two years in 50% of cases audited.
- Immunizations are up to date in at least 50% of patients reviewed in chart audit
- Self-management goal has been documented/updated within one year for patients with chronic disease at least 40% of time in chart audit
Compliance, Policies and Procedures
- Keeps current with respect to organizational policies and procedures, and puts them into action accordingly
- Shows meaningful progress toward their quality improvement goals
Interpersonal Skills
- Is approachable to the nurse or midlevel provider on call.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to work with a multidisciplinary clinical team
- Computer skills including Microsoft office suite, electronic medical records and practice management system
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- Required: M.D. or D.O. with completion of an accredited residency training program, as well as Board Certification for full-time Infectious Diseases Physician and/or a combination of internal medicine, family practice and experience working with HIV/AIDS and Infectious Diseases.
- Desired: AAHIVM certification.
- Required: Minimum 3 years experience in treating people living with HIV/AIDS in a ethnically, culturally, and racially diverse environment.
- Required: Active X license
- Desired: Experience working in a non-profit healthcare environment
- Current Maryland License to practice medicine
- Federal DEA license
- LGBTQ candidates are highly desired.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Work is typically performed in an office environment.

Pay: $200,000.00 - $239,000.00 per year
